how do we know what is a "Christian" song, artist, composer, band, lyric, etc. ?

people often talk about 'christian music' as though it were a genre, but this isn't what 'genre' means in the context of music - if i tell you some music is 'jazz' or 'hip-hop' -- you have a general idea of what it may sound like, within some loose classification. however, if i tell you an artist is 'christian' -- does that give you any information about what it may sound like?

what is the 'litmus test,' if there is one?

how do you all define 'Christian Music' ?

Music by a Christian who also sings about things that align with their worldview.

Calling something 'Christian music' does not tell you what genre it is though.

To me Christian music = Christian lyrics, whether it is a slow psalm or a fast and loud metal song

Any music that's edifying and brings glory to God.
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

i love this verse, also Colossians 3:16 --
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
