Never an august burns red fan. If you want metalcore, the band you need to check out was the highly underrated Still Remains. They did two albums for Roadrunner and then, sadly, had to break up. They were from my area, and really really good.

Not bad, the quality of the video is very average though, I like their song 'Stay Captive' if you're familiar with that one...

I had a quick google/youtube and turns out the band is back together and looking to record a new album, this is there newest song i believe, sounds awesome. I love how they do the small electronic parts through-out their songs.

I never heard their second album. Just their first. Awesome that they're back together, I hung out with Jordan and a couple of the other guys (the drummer and keyboardist I think), and they were really cool guys.

eh. ABR came out at a time where I had more than my fill of metal-core filled with repetitive guitar leads and chugga chugga breakdowns, and that's exactly what they were, so I had no interest. I still enjoy some of the older bands I started with though. I knew of, and heard Still Remains about a year or so before they were signed to Roadrunner, plus like I said, they only live about an hour away. Gotta support the locals. And I do like them still.

Isn't that just christian metal in general?

Yeah I agree, however, dont support a band you hate. I mean really, a good one now.....we have quite enough crappy metalcore bands out already.

I just found a slew of extremely good christian metal bands that aren't metalcore. Check out Bombworks records, and Nokturnal Hemisphere. If you can find them in this thread Ugly posted two really killer bands that I love, A Hill to Die Upon and Wintersoul. If you can't find them, check them out on youtube.

Just to add to this, metalhelm is basically the webstore for Nokturnal Hemizphear. I still get their newsletters. They changed from nhmetal to the helm sometime last year. The webstore is worth checking out. Got good deals, and specials on music, and merch.

Endtime productions is another good label. Fear dark records is also worth mentioning as it had some good quality unblack metal bands when it was going. You can still visit their myspace pages, which is what I used to do back in the day when myspace was alive. Was a good way to check out music, and new bands.

I actually like both August Burns Red, and Still Remains. Both have put out great music, but its true that metalcore has kind of flooded the market place and almost drowned innocent people like myself. Still my ears won't complain if some exceptional metalcore comes along.

There's a great place to buy MP3's out there too called eMusic.com
I saw that live HORDE album there for under $5 & they have tons & tons of old christian metal/rock that you'd pay out the nose for if you tried to get in physical cd form.

speaking of the greatest drummer to grace the planet, has anyone heard the new tourniquet album? I was considering getting it on MP3, and it got some pretty killer reviews, I'd just like an opinion from someone I trust :D

Also, if anyone knows where I can get early LS albums on MP3 (particularly their first album and Inhabit), let me know. All I can find are hard copies and it's not easy to get one of those for much less than 35-40 bucks.

I own BOTH & the new TOURNIQUET is the best thing they've released since "PATHOGENIC"...I own every LS (if that means Living Sacrifice) cd on MP3 (except the "best of" and the "remastered version" of REBORN)-but I have the original release.

I used to have all the ones they did with Bruce on vocals, but getting into more of the extreme lately, and really liking the old classic metal sound I really want their selftitled and Inhabit ones (I didn't like the vocals on Non-Existent), but I can't find them anywhere.

I'll have to get the new Tourniquet eventually. I only ever had one album of theirs, Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm, but I loved it.

Yeah, i have the new Tourniquet. I was a bit disappointed, they had the brutal heavy death metal cover, so i expected some boost in aggression and heaviness (not death metal, but 'the heaviest album we've done in a long time' type thing). It wasn't much heavier than their last stuff. Not been a big fan since Guy Ritter left and they got those weird vocals that don't match. Though i did kind of like Crawl To China.

If you want MP3's of LS let me know. I can link you copies. I even have a remastered version of the first album done by Cliffy Huntington from the old punk band The Huntingtons. He does some of the Retroactive and Roxx Records remasters, and also does stuff for personal use he sometimes shares with others.

The 1st LS album soooo needed a remaster. I have to crank the volume up so much, just to have it sound at a normal level to enjoy. I see what yer' saying about the new Tourniquet Ugly & agree. I miss King Diamond's,er...I mean Guy Ritter's voice as well. I always love how him & Gary would switch vocals back n forth sometimes in the same song. The new singer,mr. whats his face,is ok...but really doesn't match the Tourniquet "sound". Oh...and I was all over YouTube yesterday watching Blackie Lawless interviews about him being christian now...pretty cool. I like how in one interview he said he'd now come full circle. I had no idea he'd come from a christian household & gave his life as a kid. Seems so many of us have done that. I wonder if that's where that whole thing comes in to play..."teach you child in the ways of the Lord & they shall not depart" Wonder if once God has his "hooks" in you...that's it...lol his Spirit will keep trying to pull you back...always that still small voice...but man, sometimes the quietest things ring out the loudest. Anyhoooo...it's 3:26 am and as usual @ this hour,I drone on.

Yeah, that seems to be how it works. Same thing happened with Alice Cooper. He was the son of a baptist minister. He never turned his back on his faith, he just got so caught up in the rock star/alice persona it just blurred his perception. Then one night he saw a Billy Graham Crusade on TV and realized how far he had gotten from his faith. He always considered himself a Christian his whole career, just was too blind to see it was only lip service.

If you guys want that LS self titled remix, here's the link.
