Passports Required For Domestic Travel In 2016, But IRS Can Revoke Passports For Taxes
http://www.forbes.com/sites#/sites/...-2016-but-irs-can-revoke-passports-for-taxes/

Yes, it’s true, the IRS power to revoke passports was signed into law.
Think you only need a passport to board an international flight?

In 2016, some fliers better have one to fly domestic, which means they had better be paying
their taxes. It now looks as though your passport could be cancelled if you owe the IRS.

The Real ID Act created a national standard for state-issued IDs. It hits air travel in 2016.
Some states initially refused to comply, fearing that the feds would make a national database
of citizens. Others cited high administrative costs and a 50% increase in fees for drivers.

Most states are OK, but millions in Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire and New York
may have to start using a passport to fly domestically...................

IRS Power To Revoke Passports Signed Into Law

The passport provision is now official, as President Obama signed the 5-year
infrastructure spending Bill. It adds a new section 7345 to the Internal Revenue Code.

It is part of H.R. 22 – Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, the “FAST Act.”

The title of the new section is “Revocation or Denial of Passport in Case of Certain Tax Delinquencies.” The idea goes back to 2012, when the Government Accountability Office
reported on the potential for using the issuance of passports to collect taxes.............

The irs does not have to prove you owe the money. It only has to say that you do.
The irs does not have to ask a judge for permission to revoke your passport.

An irs official just sends an e-mail, and the State Department cancels it.
And the law does not provide taxpayers an opportunity to challenge a finding that
they owe back taxes in federal court before their passport is revoked.

-No pay, no play. You stay. Because we say.

The irs already has the power to file tax liens against all property you own,
including property acquired after the lien is filed. The irs also has the ability
to empty your bank accounts without judicial review.

It just has to send you a notice of payment saying how much you owe.
If you don’t challenge or pay within 10 days, they can empty your accounts.
This is routine. How you feed yourself is for you to figure out.

The Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000 also granted the irs the power
to seize the bank accounts of those suspected to be engaged in criminal activity

—even when no charges have been filed and no convictions made.

They can just take your money. And there is not much you can do. Unless the media picks up the story,
the money is just gone.

According to Forbes, in 2012 only 20 percent of the cases in which money was
seized were criminal charges pursued! Eighty percent of victims were innocent
in the eyes of the law—and they had their money stolen by the government anyway.
http://www.forbes.com/sites#/sites/...-that-makes-past-scandals-pale-in-comparison/

Forbes calls it an “irs horror story.” Even the New York Times is reporting horror stories of abuse
—by the government.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/u...ck&contentCollection=U.S.&pgtype=article&_r=1

How has America gotten to the point that the government can take your money without
even pressing charges against you and without even giving you a chance to defend yourself
in court? And now, unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats at an institution with a notorious
history of politically motivated witch hunting has the right to revoke your passport if you
don’t pay the taxes they say you owe—and you are not even entitled to a day in court!

Innocent until proven guilty, trial by jury, judicial review, separation of powers

—are these not principles that America was supposedly founded upon?

How about freedom of movement? Is not the right to travel a fundamental freedom?
Do you know that in many states, you soon wont be able to even board an airplane
without a passport? So now the irs can ban you from flying within America too.

How is that constitutional?

The new law gets even worse. Politicians in their wisdom and desire to make the government
more efficient let the irs turn over debts they say you owe to private debt collectors.
You know, those same scum of the Earth, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act violators
that intimidate, harass, lie, threaten, and break every rule Congress has passed to
protect consumers. The very ones that Congress also says needs to be reined in.

-yes the dead beats need to payup, but this gives the irs way to much power in my opinion.

**wonders what happened to due process.

Most states have to notify you and allow for due process just to revoke your driver's license.

I thought all this was about the Driver's Licenses of certain States? Not their passports. Alabama is one of the States that apparently do not pass the muster of the TSA for flying commercially in the US. They are saying we will need a Passport to fly as they will not accept our DL's as proof of identity.........or some such garbage.........

sorry about the confusing way i laid it out.

one, the irs gained power to revoke passports to those owing money, without due process.

two, if needing a passport for some interstate travil in 2016,
those deadbeats could be grounded from flying even between states.

granted the current fine owing needed to revoke is large, im sure it will lower,

but all they have to do is [claim] you owe it, and make a call and your flight status grounded.
