Oh but don't you know, Christ is ruling NOW and this is the result!

You know I've re-read Ricks post several times and I still don't see a Bible quote in it.

'Cause God forbid we explore a tangent that applies.
Do you feel better now? Even after comments have been made about derailing threads you still continue to snidely make comments towards other who don't agree with you about others subjects.
Please. Tell me how much more of a big boy you feel now.

Elizabeth, one of my FB friends commented that if the L looked like a gun, then the K looked like an AK47.

My question is, where has all the common sense gone? 10 years ago, I remember a story of a kid who pulled out a very realistic toy gun on a cop, and nearly got shot. The only reason he didn't was the cop waited. And very understandable whatever the outcome could have been.

But now, we've got food that is accidentally shaped like a gun and pandemonium breaks out. Lets call the bomb squad. because some little two year old made an L out of Lego blocks, and it now looks like a gun. Let's suspend teens who disarm a gunman because they were involved in a violent crime that contained a weapon. (The last scenario actually occurred.)

And so with further ado, I must deliver this obituary:
Today we mourn the passing of an old friend, by the name of Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life but died in the United States from heart failure on the brink of the new millennium.

No one really knows how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes, factories - helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness.

For decades, petty rules, silly laws, and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn't always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it's okay to come in second.

A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including body piercing, whole language, and "new math." But his health declined when he became infected with the "If-it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it" virus.

In recent decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of well intentioned but overbearing regulations. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero-tolerance policies. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, has been suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.

It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parent when a female student was pregnant or wanted an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from the Boy Scouts to professional sports. So when a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, and was awarded a huge settlement, Common Sense threw in the towel.

As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments regarding questionable regulations such as those for low flow toilets, rocking chairs, and stepladders.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers: My Rights, and I'ma Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

As a kid, we used to take sticks and use them to play cops and robbers on our bikes. We blayed batman and robbin, watched buggs bunny and tried to do all the things the coyote did to the road runner and failed terribly, but had the most fun doing it! NEVER once did we think we were to go off to really harm or hurt anyone for real as this was the deffinition of play or pretend as we were acting as the actors do now days in the movies or on TV. We were kids, and this is what kids do, use their immaginations! In fact, we were encouraged to do so at home, and in school!

So why is it ok for the actors today (of all ages, young and old alike) to pretend to play out these roles in these scenarios,(some much worse) but we, in our innocense as children learning and becoming adults trying to immitate those who we see on the television, with minds not contaminated with adults ideas of harmful thoughts that we now know that can flood ones intentions to suade as evil. But as a child these intentions are not the case as it is only in play and learning to immitate our role modles in fun and now and then and again to pass the time in funny humor as a family watch the munsters on TV which also had many things that one now days might deem as unhealthy and violent. But today, i am not an axe murderer, a rapist, nor have i committed any crime against the system in any way. I dont even have a parking ticket?

For me, i would much rather see a kid using their immagination such as this child did that we speak of causing no harm to anyone, than to have him watching some of the videos we have on the tv or internet today that demonstrate such sexual content, hate and course language with the intent of an abusive and gang related or narcistic ego. These are the things that make a childs mind corrupt and when a child is not suppervised and especially not shown love and attention they will do all they can to find it where ever they can. Good or bad, the child will find it, for attention even bad is better than none at all. I am NOT saying this child's parents was not surpervision him at all. what i am saying is, the child was just being a child and the media has over exhausted the thought so much to people and schools that people now dont live rationally. They live in fear and allow those fears to run their lives and their communities projecting their own fears unto others. The hard thing is the government with all its rules and regulations give them the authoritiy to do so because they too have fears. Its an endless cycle and the innocent get caught in the crossfire...

We live iin crazy times! It's either too much or too little of things these days, and people are too far off one way, meaning too strict, or too leaneant. There needs to be a balance as this is what Gods word says.

But God has NOT given us a spirit of fear! Praise God!!! SO...

All i can say is, its too bad i am on a diet now, for all this talk is making me hungry for a poptart! I wonder what shape i could make? :D

RickyZ is not me.

I love Ricky to pieces, but even before you commented on this thread he made a remark about the 1000 year reign. I understand that people do not agree with the preterist views. I am ok with that. Really, I am, but while I can't tell people what to post in my thread I can at least ask that people not derail it to a subject that is ongoing and where there are already tons of threads about it.

If someone wants to argue that a poptart is part of bible prophecy then by all means do, but make another thread about it.
I have nothing against you and Ricky. Ricky has a wonderful sense of humor. He is intelligent, loving, and regardless of how we agree he is truly a sweetheart......but a hothead... just like I am at times. So to prevent he and I BOTH from "arguing" over it in the News forum I would like for that topic to not really be part of this thread. I sure this is a crazy request but thats how I feel.

Anyway, while I am not going to get in to the topic about this being related to Revelation I will say that just from reading that book we can all see that governments and nations all seem to "fall" at some point.
When a government becomes too powerful, and begins to make its people paranoid and live in fear you can guarantee that the fall of that nation is right around the corner.

When Obama addressed the nation recently he made a comment "these children lost their lives because of a bullet"...well, ok... He thinks the bullet is to blame....Wonderful! Nevermind the fact a bullet is useless without a force behind it. The force is the person that pulls the trigger. His comment showed me he is not looking at the true evil, but an object. A useless object if it is left alone. This alarmed me.
Now we have teachers freaking out over breakfast food. Fear is being instilled in the American public that guns are evil yet nothing is being said about the evil heart of man. Why is that?

All I see is a manipulative tactic for the government to try to convince it's people that they are going to protect them while possibly disarming them because "guns are bad". Then what happens? We depend on THEM to protect us, while forgetting that we are to trust in God. Before you know it God is put on the back burner and Obama is held "higher" because his alligator tears tricked people in to turning over weapons that protect us from the government when it is taken over by tyrants.
The government has ONE sheet of paper that are laws and rules to go by. JUST ONE. That piece of paper is the United States Constitution.
How many sheets of paper full of laws does the people of this nation have to abide by? Well...let me tell ya... ITS ALOT! That's kinda messed up isn't it?

As long as our government is convinced that an object is the primary risk and not the heart on conscience of man then you betcha that we are about to see some serious oppression, depression, and possible continued loss of innocent life on our very own land.

Sorry Liz, obviously I'm not making clear the connection. The fact that people see a gun in a kid's pop tart mountain, and feel threatened by it, speaks to the absolute insanity that permeates our world. It is exactly this kind of insanity that Christ says we will know by it that His return is near. So it applies. And I am going to somehow, someway, help you see that such insanity is NOT, NEVER EVER, a sign of or result of Christ's reign on earth. It just baffles my mind that people can post about the world's unrighteousness, like in this thread, and still maintain that Christ is ruling here and now. Again, the two are NOT compatible.

Thank you (and Rick) for the nice words about me. I love you too dear, that's why I really want you to understand that when Christ DOES rule, it will in no way, shape or form, resemble the world you see around you today (nor will it be the 'carnal utopia' that Zone imagines). It can't, it's a physical and spiritual impossibility. And it's important to understand that. I mean, really, if you equate the world's dire and evil situation with the power of Christ, is that not bordering on blaspheme of the Holy Spirit? And I KNOW you don't stand for that.

I'll try not to hijack threads, but if evidence and analogy arise I'm probably going to point it out. It's THAT important to me, and to you.

Oh and, you tend to get a bit snide with those who don't agree with you too. Just thought a little 'goes around/comes around' was called for. Maybe not. I'll try not to 'big boy' this kind of thing. Sorry.

Even more of a reason to home school your kids if feasible, if and when I do have children of my own they WILL be home schooled and have proper firearm training and etiquette's.....and they sure as hades wont eat garbage poptarts!
that depends, the word "liberal" has a new twisted meaning in the US these days, i think it means anti-American pro-communism. if you're for abortion, homosexuality, debarring law abiding citizens of arms, 60% of the pop controlling the other 40% etc. then yes you are considered a modern day "liberal" in the USSA err...i mean USA.
*standing-o*

i don't know whether to kidnap and adopt you or introduce you to
♪my single daughter♫.
(j/k...i mean, we have single daughte...oh, nm)

what i wouldn't give these days for an old-fashioned '60s liberal.
not the college age type, but the guy who was born in the 20s or 30s and honestly just wanted to help people.

Don't point that thing at me! I might get diabetes!
my niece reported she was watching some tv show (about bones?--and she says it's a liberal mouthpiece)
and one character tells another too much applesauce will cause adult-onset diabetes.

so much for an apple a day?

I have seriously thought about doing homeschooling myself.

I have a 5th grader. He attends the same elementary school I attended. The laws, and regulations the State has set for students, and teachers now are horrible.

I assume all states have an Assessment Test at the end of the school year. It measures a students acedemic development. I remember taking these tests from first grade to 9th. We didn't "study" for these tests, nor were we tutored.

My son comes home last week saying his teacher wants all the students to score high on the tests. If they don't it doesnt count against the students, but against the teacher and the schools reputation. It's true that low scores won't fail the child, but for a teacher to say they are more concerned about the reputation of the school was rather disappointing.
They don't care about the students like they used to. My son doesn't even have homework. How is the child supposed to learn study skill without homework? He isn't even allowed to bring home text books!
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE KID IS LEARNING!
hey, Beth--hope all is well, and thx for the thread, ludicrous as the premise is. :)

you prolly don't remember it, but I have many friends who either were or are teachers, and there has always been 'teaching to the test' going on in classrooms.
because in part a school's special funding is based on the results (and who doesn't want more money?) and yeah, it makes teachers look a whole lot better when the kids do better.

the lack of homework would concern me, too! 5th grade and no homework?
but don't go by me--having raised complaining to an art form, i would also protest about a child who had too much. :)

beeteedubs--not all states require a standardized test each year. but they are available for purchase no matter where you live, and whether or not you want to share the results with anyone else. don't even have to homeschool.
just fyi. :)

I mean I had very very little homework throughout all of high school if I remember correctly. It could be I just didn't do it...either way I still graduated in the top 10% of 300+ kids, so it must not have been too important

I don't believe in homework but as a teacher I have to set it for my students. It's not that I'm against them learning study skills early on (that's great) but homework takes away from the little time families already have together during the school weeks.

That's true but it's also important that parents and children talk to their kids about life and play with them.
