The Obama administration gave "the Internet" a chance to influence policy. They clearly don't understand "the Internet".

More than a dozen petitions sprung up on the White House petitions website "We The People" this weekend asking for various states to be allowed to secede from the United States after President Barack Obama won reelection.
The Texas petition was the first, and most detailed, listing complaints such as the Transportation Security Administration and the National Defense Authorization Act, which petitioners called "blatant abuses" of their rights.
According to the White House website, if any petition garners 25,000 signatories, the administration will respond. Previous petitions have asked the US government to acknowledge the existence extraterrestrials, and to reveal the White House beer recipe, along with countless others dealing with the legalization of marijuana.

good luck with that. The US fought a terrible war the last time such an idea got into some people's heads. The US lost 600,000 people to terrible deaths, and now they want more just because the government wont make a few concession to some religious fanatics.

I consider it a crime of treason for a person to sign such a petition.

Celeste, you may not realize it, but it's not a crime at all. In fact, by law, the US must allow the states to secede if they wish, especially Texas. What is a crime would be to deny that right to a majority of people. However, I do think that for certain states, it would be the least advisable situation, because they would extremely vulnerable to certain groups.

And while I'm not surprised that TX, MS, and ND are on the list, I am surprised that NY and NJ are on the list.

Why do you say this?

I see nothing in the link you provided to indicate that the Obama administration was at all confused by the responses they received. From what I read, the administration put forward the opportunity, and several individuals took that opportunity. In fact, the only thing that would surprise me is if there weren't a sizable number of signatures on each of those states' petitions from northern states -- even some from Obama staff members -- who are basically saying, "Sure, and don't let the door hit your butt on the way out."

You seem to think liberals had no idea that so many conservatives don't like Obama and his policies. Come now, we're not that dumb. We're not as clueless as Romney, who was clearly shocked that he lost the election, despite all of the non-partisan polls (and most of the partisan ones, even the conservative ones) indicating he would.

I have to agree with violakat.

Wanting to secede? No problem.

Wanting to destroy the country? Well, yes, that's treason.

And, several congressional leaders are ON RECORD admitting that they have purposely tried to ruin this country, voting for or against certain bills not because they agreed or disagreed with them, but specifically because they wanted to hurt Obama, and they wanted this country to falter under him so he would not win re-election.

THAT is treason. As far as I'm concerned, ANY person, duly elected or not, who openly admits that they would rather have the country fail than give into a sitting president should be found guilty of treason, stripped of his or her citizenship, and exiled from the US forever.

The fact that many of these leaders are still in office makes me ill.

I didn't like Bush -- either Jr or Sr -- nor Reagan before, nor Ford. That's as far back as my memory goes. (I vaguely remember Nixon, but only after he was out.) I disagreed with most of their policies. Most. But every now and then they said or did something that I did agree with. And when they did, I supported them on it. I would be more than happy to go on record and say, "You know what, George (or Ron or Gerry), I don't usually agree with you, but on this point you're absolutely right." You've seen me say similar things in these boards to people I disagree with often. I won't let my disagreement with a person's policies turn into hatred for that person.

It is disappointing to find that many Republican political leaders are not so generous with Obama.

It's even more disappointing to see that, even though this is a fact, demonstrative and proved, there are still many claiming that it is Obama who is being "unreasonable." I don't even like Obama that much, but dang, if people can't even see what's going on before their own eyes, what does that say?

I hope it doesnt try at all. While TX may not need Washington DC, it does need the US.

Texas can be self sufficient. It has the energy resources, it has the brain power, it has the agricultural, mechanical and technological means to sustain itself.
And if it were a nation, it would have a trade surplus.
But this would go against the will of the God of this world, who wants a one world entity, which would make it easier for him to control.

Rick, it may be able to sustain itself, but there are some other things that needs to be considered. First, are the drug cartels. If TX really had a viable plan for dealing with the cartels, then, I would say go for it, but it doesn't. On top of that, TX would need the U.S. as an ally, mainly for protection, and Obama would turn his back on TX the minute they seceded.

And if your saying that Obama is the AntiChrist, I have to disagree 100%.

Ha! - - - No, I'm not saying that.
The illegal drug policy is made at the national level.
There is a way to kill the drug cartels. It has to do with making it unprofitable.
It is the same way the 'booze' cartels were taken down by the ending of prohibition.

Sorry, so many people end up saying that

As for this, that's debatable.

I would like to see verifiable proof that these states are progressing to secede from the US. Until we have undeniable proof, we shouldn't our time and energy on something that may not happen.

There's only a few thousand people supporting the petitions though and I am certain that the FBI has added every single one of them to a watch list.

Terrorist Watchlist | ISE.gov
Do You Qualify As A Domestic Terrorist?

I think their efforts are well-intentioned but misguided. Though some voter fraud manifested in this last election in favor of the Democrats in the popular vote, the electoral college vote was spotless. The people have spoken. Sure they have made the wrong choices but it was their choice to make.

There are many other practical and realistic solutions those of us who disagree with the majority decision can take. Secession; however, just isn't one of them.

@AOK

* Expressions of libertarian philosophies (statements, bumper stickers)
* Second Amendment-oriented views (NRA or gun club membership, holding a CCW permit)
* Survivalist literature (fictional books such as “Patriots” and “One Second After” are mentioned by name)
* Self-sufficiency (stockpiling food, ammo, hand tools, medical supplies)
* Fear of economic collapse (buying gold and barter items)
* Religious views concerning the book of Revelation (apocalypse, anti-Christ)
* Expressed fears of Big Brother or big government Homeschooling
* Declarations of Constitutional rights and civil liberties
* Belief in a New World Order conspiracy
I guess they got me on multiple counts.

1,2,4 is something I'd really like to achieve, 6,7,9...

Also, see this:
The report warned law enforcement agencies to watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers for third-party political candidates such as Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin.

.
As the New Black Panthers are totally ignored even though they intimidate voters and call for vigilante justice. As the streets of Chicago are handed over to the Nation of Islam.

Welcome to Amerika comrades.
