For me it's women wanting to practice a man's role, being on a par with men, giving up our femininity, being "one of the lads". It's not accepting of our differing roles in society, not wanting to be treated different or "like a lady" and feeling insulted when we are. In short feminism is masculinity.
Good explanation! I agree with mitspa that it is often due to men not being what they should be e.g. - womanizer, greedy, self centered, worldly, materialistic, idol worshippers, etc.

How would you say this relates to Hellenism?

I'm sorry, I don't really understand the meaning of Hellenism?

But yeah feminism is really the polar opposite to complementarianism, it's the dismissal of God's order of separate roles for men and women.

Women lead through their husbands. Their husbands lead through Jesus Christ. If not God is unhappy, if so God is filled with joy. We poor sheep can only wait in awe and wonder for the shepherd to lead us to safe and green pastures. I don't know if I can tell a stranger from my shepherd some times, much less if it is a male or female!

But the prime minister and leading the country has got nothing to do
with leadership and authorities in the church or at home.

If that was applied to every situation, there would never be any women
managers of any grade, never be any women head teachers, never be any
women social workers in charge of people.

There would never be women police offers as they have authority over the
general public. There would never be queens ie as in the queen of England.

A prime minister is not the spiritual leader of the country.

Sometimes I read threads like these, and think that my Native American great grandfather may have been right. He said that white people are crazy. They don't understand woman's place in the world. Woman should be barefoot and pregnant. Man should hunt and fish. I have to admit he practiced what he preached. He had 18 children by two wives, and spent most of his time on the river or in the woods.

Just thought you needed a change of pace. lol.

With 18 kids I'm not surprised he never went home. :D

The Lord appears to accept female leadership when men do not step up and provide the necessary level of guidance (see the example of Deborah).

If history is any teacher, we live in such an age. I pray he blesses us with women like Maggie.

I'm not sure if the best place for this discussion is the News Forum or the Bible Discussion Forum but I've posted it here in the hope that it's "safer" LOL.

On the day a woman assumes a Prime Ministerial role in Britain, what are your thoughts on having women it top jobs and effectively running the country FROM A BIBLICAL STANCE. Do you think God would be happy with women being in such powerful positions with men in support roles? Alternatively do you feel that it is only in a family role where men are assumed as leaders - or the church where men are called to lead.

Can we keep this civil please where opposing views are respected? Thank you. MPW
It's a bit late for "on the day," isn't it? The Iron Lady did it already.

From a biblical stance? She seemed to fit the Proverbs 31 role model in a more modern setting. Deborah did a good job as the judge/prophet/warrior/wife.

I think submitting isn't a lesser role. When I get one of my money-making ideas going, I talk to hubby about it. If he doesn't like the idea, he tells me why. If we can, we go with consensus. If we can't, he gets final vote. As long as the wife gets agreement with hubby, she can do anything.

Hubby agreed to my idea of starting my home-based business. He had no part of running it, but he was an excellent advisor. (When a customer made me leery, hubby made sure he was in hearing distance when the customer came over. The only time he said anything to any of my customer was when the creepy guy thought "I'll see you at 1 PM to look at your resume" meant "stop by whenever you want." He came at noon. I was involved in something too important to answer the door. Hubby came home for lunch. So, we listened to the guy pounding on the front door until hubby left to go back to work at quarter of one. Then he told the guy I'd be available to see him at 1, just like I promised. Hubby is a big imposing man, so they guy slithered back to his car until 1 and came in quite humbly. lol)

My only question is anyone else notice how so many old grandma types are being put in powerful positions? Janet Yellen, Christine Lagarde, and now Theresa May, yes they are all women but why are they all looking like they are ready for a retirement home? Where are the younger qualified women???? Again no offense, just noticing this weird trend the last 2 years and stating it.....
Because you're so very young and think 59 is old? Because you think 60 is "ready for the retirement home?" Or 70 is? Because you have yet to realize "grandma types" probably are grandmas, so have already raised their families successfully, or, if they aren't mothers they spent decades developing their skill sets? And as mothers they were still able to raise their families while working in politics? Something kids have yet to do.

I would actually like to hear others opinions on this (backed by the bible), as I honestly have no idea how I feel about it.

Im not "against it", as in, I dont doubt that there are women out there who could do it. But as for God's will, that is what I am concerned about. How would He feel about it, is it something He would allow, I would like to know.

I do believe that if a woman is put in a place of authority over a man, the right thing to do is to obey authority, so of course I absolutely do not support men who would defy a woman based on her gender : p But still, I was thinking about this the other day, actually. I would like to know God's will on this.
Did Margaret Thatcher disappear in the annuls of history? The UK already had their Iron Lady -- their first female PM. She was a tough, strong lady. I liked her. (Granted, I didn't have to live under her rule, but I liked her because of how she helped Reagan.)

Well, maybe you could get somebody from a beauty contest put into a powerful position? I can't recall anybody describing the 70 year old Donald Trump a granddad kinda type? Pretty sure nobody said anything about granddads regarding Bernie Sanders either, and if they did, I'm durn sure it wasn't meant to be something bad. But when a woman, 10 years younger than Trump, is being referred to as a grandma type...it is not in a positive way. I'm a bit disappointed in your take on female politicians, don't we already have our fair share of beauty contests? What's next? Miss President Beauty Contest? Miss Prime Minister?
Oh, Trump is so the granddad type. He's got granddad screaming out of every pore. (Or, is it just that my grandfather was as quiet and reserved as The Donald?) And Bernie? More of the great granddad type.

Of course, I'm 60, so I'm too young to be Mom yet.

(I really did think I was too young to be a mom until I did the math and realized I was 40, so old enough to be grandmom. lol)

I have noticed that Americans are nostalgic about Mrs Thatch....but then again you didn't have to live under her policies. Great at foreign policy, pants at home.
She helped end the Cold War. (I also think I'm nostalgic with her because she was of the era when we had our last great President. It's been a long time since "great leader.")

Theresa May was born only a few days before me. And most US Presidents were in their 50's & 60's.

I'm not ready for the retirement home yet. Please don't shuttle me away. I got places to go & things to do!!! ;) LOL
I'm just getting to the age that I realize I might need one one day. I'm thinking in a mere 20 years, but with hubby being older, might have to go before I need one.

I had to check one out for him. I went the big day they had an Elvis impersonator live in their parking lot.

Please, Lord! If I'm ever stuck seeing impersonators make it Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, or Alabama Shake. Or... please give me the right to say, "No thanks."

I actually don't think she looks that old. David Cameron was young when he first became Prime Minister. People only notice her age because she is female. The world is obsessed with how women look. There are old male newsreaders but no old female ones.

I hope Theresa May will help bring about a change in attitudes toward women.
Theresa May is too young! She's just a kid. I'm too young for such a job!

Feminism is thriving because too many men have drank the Kool Aid of liberalism and turned their back on God. Now their sons are being raised as limp-wristed metrosexuals who wouldn't know the definition of testosterone if you pinned it on their chest.

Same with Reagan, most who like him were not alive in the 80s.
Alive? I was married the year he became President. Iran hostages freed on his first day! No more 18-21% interest rates. He promised trickle down and delivered. ($20 more each week in the paycheck without a pay raise.) By the time he left office, friends of ours bought a house at 4.5% interest rate. Unemployment incredibly low. End of the Cold War. End of U.S.S.R. We were truly proud to be Americans because we put in the effort to make our goods great! When he said something, the world listened. He was all that and a bucket of chips!

Most people who don't like him were too young to remember him. (Well, or air traffic controllers. lol)

He just liked women and when he couldn't divorce them he had them murdered. I don't think times have changed much over the years - it's just disguised as an accident these days.
He didn't like my ancestor -- the Duke of Buckingham.

Well there is no doubt he did some good but in Britain he is chiefly remembered for his womanising.
And, he's chiefly known by me for stealing the family land and chopping off the heads of guys who complained. (Don't worry. I don't want it back. That's what got us to the New World and I don't like cleaning a small house. I'd never get that one cleaned. And the guards with those hats? How many teddy bears were killed in the making of those...? Oops. Maybe that's why we don't own the land anymore. We're crazy. lol)
