I still cannot private message. I found a thread in the Tech forum about it, but it has been closed to further comments.

@Oncefallen , you seem to be the person I am supposed to contact, so can you tell me when my paid subscription will go into effect? I paid through Paypal several days ago.

Thank you.

May I ask what the "Palace" part of your username refers to?

I am just the curious type.
I am so glad you asked. It's an indirect reference to the Palace Beautiful from the Pilgrim's Progress. It's one of my favorite parts in the 2019 version of the movie.

I saw the 2019 version...twice, I think...but I do not remember that particular reference. I will watch it again sometime soon. I have also seen an earlier animated version which was quite good. Personally, I can relate to a lot of things in Bunyan's classic. I definitely know, firsthand, what it means to walk this earth as a pilgrim and a stranger. It can be very lonely sometimes, but the only direction to go is forward. I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back. No turning back.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it, and my curiosity has been satisfied. Well, until I get curious again. lol.

Here is a link to the 1978 animated version. I have seen this a few times, and I quite like it.

If anybody watches the 1978 version that I just finished watching again, then "Faithful" is definitely my favorite character, even though he is only in it for a couple of minutes. I could use a "Faithful" or "Hopeful" in my life, but it is what it is.

Thank you for posting. This is the second time I've gotten the chance to watch that particular early version. I love how good the movie is for reflecting on one's own journey. And I agree, it is relatable. Sobering, too. For me, it really encourages me to take a good look at my own life and ask some tough questions. Am I living the pilgrim's life? Or am I leaning into something else? Wherever I am in the journey, I trust the Lord will provide the proper guidance, just like He did for Christian Pilgrim.

It is a very short version, but it touches upon some very important issues. For me, I especially like how they resisted the temptations at "Vanity Fair", and especially when "Faithful" responded to the question, "What will you buy?" with "We buy the truth!", which is a reference to this:

Proverbs 23:23

"Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding."

I also love their resistance to everything at "Vanity Fair" because I absolutely love the book of Ecclesiastes which thoroughly describes the vanities of this life in the light of eternity. In fact, I was going through some of it earlier today.

By the way, and I hope that it is okay for me to say this, it is encouraging to me to know that others are on this same pilgrimage that I am on, and that they take it seriously. My life has really been one of undesired isolation to a large degree, but these types of things do uplift my spirit, so thank you.

Well, we transitioned from a charlatan posting a fake video on YouTube to talking about the true Christian pilgrimage, so that is a plus.

:)

For anybody who enjoys Christian-themed animation, "The Miracle Maker" is quite good, too. It is part Claymation, sort of like the old "Davey and Goliath" shows, and part animation. The storyline is pretty biblically accurate. Here is a link to where anybody can watch it for free if they are interested:

No major spoilers, but the Mary Magdalene scene where she gets delivered from demons is my favorite.

Well, this post will probably go over like a lead balloon, but, just for the sake of honesty...

I had some free time on my hands, so I decided to watch the 2019 version of "The Pilgrim's Progress" again, and I only made it about 1/4 of the way through. To me, it was definitely much, much less sober than the 1978 version, and also less sober than I thought I remembered it to be. Quite frankly, I felt as if I was watching a Disney animation.

Anyway, sober definitely works best for me because this Christian walk/race certainly is a sober one, or at least it ought to be.

I don’t know, I like the animated 2019 Pilgrims progress myself . My 7 year old watches it. Now Who says the Christian life has to be somber? The psalms tells us that Gods story is one worthy of praise-
“Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭150‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Is somber the attitude the Bible teaches us New Testament believers to have even? I think the overarching attitude is one of love.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭13‬ ‭

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭37‬-‭39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I said "sober", as in serious, and not "somber", as in gloomy or depressing. I know that the two words can be synonymous at times, but I was referring specifically to the goofiness I perceived while watching the animation. That turned me off.

Anyway, mine is simply one man's honest opinion. Everyone else is certainly entitled to their own opinion.
