King Hezekiah has gone down in history as one of Judah’s good kings, a reformer. At one point, he became deathly ill. The story of his illness and cure is told in 2 Kings 20:1–11 and Isaiah 38:1–7, and a brief mention of the event is found at 2 Chronicles 32:24. 2 Kings tells of a “boil,” which may suggest a type of cancer. Surely, Hezekiah’s physicians used all their knowledge and skill to save the king. Baths, dressings, dietary changes, internal medications—nothing was successful against the boil.

The Biblical account relates that Isaiah the prophet was sent to Hezekiah to inform him that he would die from his illness. Hezekiah prayed for healing, and Isaiah had not left the palace when he was sent back to the king with a different message: The Lord would heal him and give him another 15 years of life. A sign was to confirm the healing. The shadow could move forward or backward on an outdoor stairway. Hezekiah chose for the shadow to move backward (2 Kings 20:10).

On March 5 in 702 B.C.E., the 16th year before Hezekiah’s death, a prominent solar eclipse appeared over the Middle East (see NASA’s Five Millennium Catalog of Solar Eclipses). Its path crossed the Arabian Peninsula, and the obscuration of the sun over Israel was more than 60 percent.

If a stairway had been engulfed in darkness and then restored to daylight, the shadow would have appeared to retreat. A shadow wave, produced by an eclipse, may also have given the appearance of a shadow retreating. If you are in the path of the eclipse on August 21, you too may be able to see this rare Biblical sign.

It would be another hundred years before the Greeks would accomplish the first actual prediction of an eclipse.

Yes! If this eclipse passed directly over Jerusalem I'd take a little more notice.

I've never heard of any of those 8 false prophets!

But not to worry, I have my stones ready, for when the eclipse is completed throughout the US!

Seriously, stoning is too good for these fear mongerers and false prophets!

The only one of those guys I've heard of is Hugh Ross, and he's a heretic.
I live where the sun will be 90% eclipsed.
We made some eclipse-viewing boxes.
So actually it was 95% eclipsed here.
Our neighbor lady brought us three pairs of eclipse viewing glasses, which we all shared.
That was a tremendous blessing since the boxes we made didn't work very well.
The neatest part of the eclipse to me was the fact that the temperature dropped a lot.
We have relatively short summers here, but this year the heat has been relentless.

Its a short read...

Upcoming Solar Eclipse: 8 Christian Leaders Explain Biblical Importance

Cliff notes:
We are in end times.., and America is about to be in big trouble.
In short it's paganism mixed with poor Christian theology. One response tied his thoughts of the eclipse to the zodiac.
It is disturbing to see such comments from supposed Christian leaders. Some folks resemble chicken little running around believing the world is ending as if these are not common events . We can have 2 to 3 solar eclipses a year world wide .
Just because we have one in our backyard folks get all bent out of shape. It's really arrogant on their part to believe that it must have relevance if has happened here . Let's us stop seeking after a sign and pay attention to our Lord.
Here is a list of some of the upcoming solar eclipses.to show how common they actually are .

I think there will be a HUGE Biblical significance to this eclipse. From about 1:30 to 3:00 Monday afternoon, it will be tougher to read the words on the pages of your Bible without turning on a light.
I am in the northern part of the continental states.

I could still see pretty good at the eclipse's max time.

I guess I can interpret that as God being less angry with us? We're not in as much trouble?

After all, He didn't let us get cast into as much darkness...

I read in a newspaper that parts of North Dakota will be in the path of a total eclipse in 2099.

I won't be around, but I'm guessing there will some real evil happening in North Dakota that year! Imagine the talk of the End Times that will be going on then!
