having police wear body cameras is a great idea...

first of all it would make it so that police officers who do shoot a person have automatic documentation of the event from their point of view...this would make it easier for such police officers to defend themselves in court or during an inquiry...

and secondly any badly behaving police officers would have to think twice about what they do...knowing that their every move is being recorded on camera...

I believe that wearing body cameras would be a good thing but there are some that don't trust them.

I copy pasted an artcle,Its a short read(2 to 3 minutes) but you might find some of the comments Interesting.

Body Cameras Could Restore Trust In Police.<---click

One of my best friends is a San Diego city police officer and he has to wear a camera. In the police academy they constantly train in turning it off every time they use the restroom and then turning it back on. He never complains about it. When he pulls someone over people confess to breaking the law and then it is on cam and makes a short court case. A lot of money can be saved in catching people in the act with a cam that costs only a couple hundred dollars.

But Is there any penalty other than them looking suspicious for turning It off other than turning It off to use the bathroom?

Will have to ask him what happens if it is ever turned off for something besides using the restroom. If an incident happens they still have to write a police report like any other police officer.

People seem to forget the police are our police, paid for by the people to keep
our peace for our benefit.

They are an institution given by God, to bring justice and order to a fallen world.

And everyday they are faced with the most disfunctional people imaginable, literally
the worst, often mentally ill and people in dire need of help and support in their lives
and literally running out of control.

In the UK it is over 50% of the call outs are to people who have a mental illness.
They have now tried sending mental health nurses out with access to the medical
files of suspects, so they know what to do to help calm these disturbed people down.

The beds in hospitals are full, and there is simply not room to deal with them so they
are being housed in police station cells, without proper support or aid.

So cameras help with mistakes, training, reviews, dealing with false allegations,
so much junk in such a hard place. If you have any sympath for the people doing
this impossible job, the modern technology will show how most are fantastic servants
to the community and deserve our respect.

We also need to take more seriously how we care for those who are not able to
properly function without support and guidance. In such an independent success
driven society, these people have a place but it is not recognised or given space
for. This is often what we are suffering from and not some evil horde who need
bashing up and putting in prison.

Yep there are a lot of different mental Issues police officers have to deal with that I don't think anyone would want to deal with and there are things the officers find exciting about the job that many people would not want to deal with also,

nevertheless If society cared more for one another, the job police officers do would not be so stressful but until then, there are good cops that still have preconceived thoughts and body cameras would help them In this society and bad cops would know they are being watched also.

You're probably right there, but that is something almost all of us already do when we write in this forum. You see reality from your own perspective. All the more reason to "Drop the gun" when you are told to.

It is an undeniable fact that many more Black men would still be alive if they had not believed it when Jessie told them they could defy the police whenever they wanted to.
