Oh well they didn't cover it on the radio show Saturday. They talked about Whitney Houston's funeral instead. I was disappointed.

Posting it on youtube was out of order. You keep the business of your house in the house. You dont air your dirty laundry for the world to see

I actually don't agree with the actions of this man. First of all there's a showmanship quality that makes me doubt the validity of the entire thing. A pragmatic individual would perhaps sell the laptop, or give it a way to a more deserving individual, not shoot it with a gun.

And to ground the girl until she's an adult? Really? For talking poorly about her family on a facebook post that was meant to be private. Which btw her Dad only saw because he's a tech expert and decided to invade her privacy.

Most of all though, put yourself in the girl's shoes. If you were in them, you wouldn't be so high and mighty.

A. Most parents threaten to ground their children tell they are adults. He was most likely exaggerating.
B. He did not invade his daughter's privacy. He was adding pictures to the family's pet account, which was not blocked from seeing the letter, which this has already been stated above, several times.

Well, I'll tell you this: my children have no "right to privacy" to slander me or their mother on Facebook (or any other medium).

That is one thing that people seem to be forgetting that the daughter did. Apparently honoring your father and mother is exempt in this situation according to some. :(

I think it was the only way he could get a point accross to his daughter. Sometime we have to use tuff love. He took his anger out on the laptop and not the kid. Sounds to me like he loved her very much and provided for her. Remember Jesus was angry when they was using his temple to sell things and not as a house of prayer.

I watched this vid! Really loved it <3 Kudos to this Dad on taking action in a way that was original, hilarious and effective..not only disciplining his daughter..but sending out a message to other parents and youngsters..not enough discipline going on in homes today..I give it a 10/10 :)

I have to admit that I laughed at the video when I first saw it. I don't think it's something I would do, but I'm not in his shoes. He was deeply hurt by what his daughter did after all he'd just done for her and she had clearly dishonored her parents. He'd also tried grounding her and that didn't work. I guess he thought he needed to try something a bit more dramatic to get her attention.

As Robo said, the police investigated and not only found that he'd broken no laws, they actually commended him. I would imagine that they, like I, have had to arrest minor after minor and heard the whole "I respect my kid's privacy" garbage, not realizing that they are legally responsible for what their kids do with and on their property. The last time I heard that I was arresting a minor who was dealing drugs out of his bedroom...with drugs, paraphenalia, scales, cash, etc. spread all over his bedroom in plain view.

I have a teen son and what he does in MY house on a laptop I BOUGHT on Internet service I PAY FOR is my business and responsibility. If more parents had this attitude we would probably have fewer missing children, far less cyberbullying with devastating results, and other negative online activities.

I believe now that the whole video is a hoax. Several things in this video and in the aftermath do not add up in my opinion. I believe this guy just wanted to make a viral video and didn't expect it to get this popular. I think the reason he outright refuses to be interviewed by any and all media outlets is because he knows that he made it all up. I think the fact that the teenage daughter has not made a video response at all points to a hoax. Plus, if he has been an IT guy for 30 years then why is he listed on his wife's veterinary clinic page as an employee, and what kind of IT guy makes videos about how to start a fire with two sticks and how to clean your pistol. Come on now. o_o

A. He handles IT for his wifes business.
B. Are you assuming that all IT people are dressed like those in the Geek Squad? Knowing you, I know this was nit what you meant. It just came out that way. But everyone has hobbies, and his might include these.

Neither one of these necessarily means its a hoax. Nor do they prove it's not.

The fact they said it was a hoax means its a hoax though.

So why has he refused every tv and radio offer to discuss this video and why hasn't his daughter made a video telling how she feels about the whole thing? I never said that it was proven to be a hoax I said i believe it is. Everything about this video seems like a hoax to me. Also, I know several people who have worked in IT for decades. Some of them are in my family. Two of them have been senior systems analysts at major corporations. Believe me, there is no way that goon shooting a laptop is a 30 year career veteran of IT.

Matt Lauer interviewed the father and daughter on the Today Show this AM. They seem like a perfectly normal family to me. :) He said that he was simply extremely frustrated. They'd tried talking with her, grounding her, etc. and nothing was getting through. They both said they were laughing about the whole thing now.

Dad has a 73% public approval rating :)
