Is it just me, or has the media and pop culture fully removed Christ from CHRISTmas? TV is full of "BUY THIS!" and "BUY THAT!" and "BUY THE OTHER THING!" TRY, just TRY, to find some sacred music on the radio!

Its more than just the media portrait... Its the fact that I watch Disney channel and they sing songs about getting their favorite presents ... The closest they get to anything biblical is saying the word "Saint" in old saint nick... And these are children's shows... Celebrating a former Christian holiday, but if any show was to bring up the name Christ, and explain the origin of this holiday and its true meaning... It would be ostracized, and people would scream that Christians are cramming their belief's onto other people... But they are the one watering down our holiday, and telling us how to portrait it, and if we correct anyone, we are the bad guys...

I would love to see them do to Eid El-Fitr as what they did to Christmas...

Can you imagine the media's outrage if a group of non believers said they are practicing the holiday by not spend a dime on shoes for the whole month of the islamic celebration of ramadan.... And once the month is over everyone blows all their money on as much shoes as possible...

Man the media would massacre that group... Let alone the islamic believers...

I suppose it depends on where you are. Go to any number of businesses and they focus on the Nativity and have carolers representing Christ's birth. Try Silver Dollar City sometime.

People can say all they want about secular liberalism, but commercialism did the deed first and we stood idly by.

Another fyi....the world has always been the world. When it was convenient, it used christian ideals to sell.

Now its not.

Its the world. Jesus is the reason for the season in my heart. I do not expect the world to be anything, but the world

It is one thing to moan about Christmas going commercial, it is another to do something about it. If you have a Christmas tree at home, have a picture of your kids sitting on Santa's knee and/or hand out presents you are part of the problem not the solution.

Purity?

Christmas in Puritan New England - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Puritans heaped contempt on Christmas, Daniels writes, calling it 'Foolstide' and suppressing any attempts to celebrate it for several reasons. First, no holy days except the Sabbath were sanctioned in Scripture, second, the most egregious behaviors were exercised in its celebration (Cotton Mather railed against these behaviors), and third, December 25 was ahistorical. The Puritan argued that the selection of the date was an early Christian hijacking of a Roman festival, and to celebrate a December Christmas was to defile oneself by paying homage to a pagan custom.[SUP][1][/SUP] James Howard Barnett notes in The American Christmas (1984) that the Puritan view prevailed in New England for almost two centuries."

I don't know if Jesus has been fully removed from Christmas in the media yet, but I'm pretty sure "bow ties" have been removed as a legitimate fashion statement!!!

Just kidding BowTied. To make it up to you, I'll buy you a straight tie with the words "Keep Christ In Christmas" on it, that way we will all be happy this holiday season!!!

another part of this is I guess about 15-18 years ago people in government and education decided that people have a right not to be offended. so they began to push Christianity out the back door any time some non-believer complained about something. this is when things began to get as bad as they are.

Pretty much so. So much so that a YMCA in Charlotte is now putting up a holiday tree instead of a Christmas tree. And you know what..... No one seems to really care. Oh, and when WalMart has all the Christmas trees and decorations on the shelves before October 31 (Halloween).
