When asked what would happen to the removed monuments, Landrieu suggested a park that would reflect the complete history of the city, from before the American Revolution to the present. That park, he said, would be a place where "history can be remembered and not revered."

If the tax paying citizens want them gone then they should go. There should no debate.

I would say the Dixie cult are the ones who refuse to admit that the civil war was indeed fought over slavery and hold these abominable men as heroes

When speaking from a position of ignorance, people usually come up with such a definition...........

The totality of ignorance required to believe that the Civil War..........OR ANY WAR......for that matter is ONLY FOUGHT based on ONE REASON.......would flounder a battleship.

slavery was the number one reason why the southern states seceded from the Union. Many people believe that since only a small percentage people actually owned slaves then the Civil War could not possibly have been fought over slavery. This is erroneous due to the fact that even the poorest non slave owning families were still higher on the social ladder than a negro slave so even though they didn't own slaves, most still supported it....as for the black man who falls under the Confederate flag, imagine being a black man in a society that sees you as nothing more than an animal. Even as a free man,you are still on the bottom rung of society. I imagine many joined the fight just to have access to food and shelter

Don't get it twisted....this is civil rights issue.most of the citizens of New Orleans are black so why should they want reminders of the people who stood for the oppression of their ancestors?

That's not the issue. You said 'no debate...' that isn't democracy.

Typical.............but you at least changed to it being the number one reason, instead of asserting it was THE REASON. Even with that, as you have never met a single person from EITHER SIDE who fought in that war, and had them tell you why they fought, you are simply relying on the bias beliefs of others.

Do you know the first time that Lincoln used the slavery issue to defend the fighting of the war? Do you know how many of the Northern peoples owned slaves?

Was it one of the reasons? Yes. Was it the SOLE reason? No. That alone disproves your first assertion in your first comment, and reveals your bias against those you consider the Dixie cult.

So, based on your logic, why should they be forced to live daily with people who cruise their neighborhoods/streets in Police cars, wearing uniforms, carrying guns? I mean we all know that the Police oppress the blacks. Why should there be white people on the TV shows that air in New Orleans, as it was the white people who oppressed them? Why should they be taught American History at all?

.........and on, and on, and on.........sigh

did you know the fact that some northerners owned slaves is irrelevant to the matter at hand?

It is not irrelevant to your initial assertion..............did you know your initial comment was?

they should absolutely be taught history but the real history that these founding fathers were morally repugnant and not the heroes that the Dixie cult paints them to be

Good, start with TEACHING THEM that it was BLACK AFIRKINS who SOLD THEM INTO SLAVERY! Then teach them that black Afrikans are repugnant and not worthy of consideration either.
