A very sensible response. I don't know if it is hypocrisy so much as it is self-righteousness, but nevertheless agree in spirit. America hasn't had a real foreign policy since maybe Clinton's presidency. Without consistency, lies or apparent lies are more plentiful in number.

I think you overestimate the value of propaganda. It is usually the spark that lights the tinder. It appeals to conceptions or misconceptions already present in the population and propels them to action or accepting the inevitability of action upon them.
And I suppose I do not see propaganda as you do at the moment to increase recruitment rates. The latest military ad campaign appears to focus on the less-violent aspects of the military "I WANT TO BE A GRAPHIC DESIGNER, SIR!"

Again, I'm splitting hairs. You're right, it isn't necessarily deceit, and that is what I wanted to know.

One final disagreement (that appears to be all I'm good for at the moment): sometimes doing nothing does help. It just has to be doing nothing with purpose if that makes any sense.
Haha I knew someone was going to say doing nothing sometimes help.:p But I think we don't disagree when you say it the way you said it, when it's done with a purpose. It depends on how someone you define ''doing nothing'' and doing something. Doing nothing to me is literally doing nothing: planning nothing, waiting for nothing, not taking action, directly or indirectly. Being completely unmoved by something. On the other hand, waiting, planning, or supporting others who can help more to the cause is doing something. Maybe it is not directly, but indirectly you would be doing something.

I don't know if I overstimate the power of propaganda. Just because it is aimed at other areas of the military it doesn't mean it isn't working. I believe that propaganda is usually aimed at the most needed areas of support. Military force isn't needed right now as it was in World War II, so there's no need to recruit a whole bunch of people for that area. This is my perception. I know propaganda doesn't dictate everything, but I do believe is a very powerful tool.

The allegations of North Korea's concentration camps is in fact nothing new. This is a very sad and old tale that goes back to my knowledge at least a few decades. What is new about this news story is that for once the international community is publicly acknowledging the situation and applying pressure to North Korea, which is a good thing indeed.

I have always been fascinated by North Korea since I was a teenager and have studied much on them (which of course even doing all that study is never enough since they are one of the most secretive nations on Earth.) In the West many people have this idea of North Korea that it is just an insane hermit kingdom. And this is indeed true. Some of their absurdities are just downright funny, and it is easy to be beguiled by their clown mask and underestimate the true dark face of the DPRK. However, one thing I came across long ago is that they do in fact have a dark underbelly that is trully horrific.

There has in fact been a good number of North Korean defectors whom have escaped the hell of North Korea and all tell similar stories of the horror of their concentration camps. When I was an atheist one of the things that at least made me give respect to true Christians was the fact that Christians seemed to be the only ones doing anything to try to expose and help this situation. Many Christians help in a multitude of ways from running secret churches, to helping North Koreans cross the border (think Underground Railroad), and of course help just by exposing the dark face of North Korea. North Korea is also one of the foremost state-sponsored persecutors of Christians.

Here is a very eye-opening video. It is basically drawings from North Korean defectors of what the atrocities committed in North Korea is like. I feel it gives a very eye-opening exposure of what the DPRK concentration camps are really like all without sayign a single word. To be frank it is brutal, nightmarish, and cruel beyond all compare. This video is extremely graphic so I am just going to put up the link, not the video itself so that people may choose to watch or not watch. I highly recommend viewer discretion, as I said the images therein are extremely violent because the Truth of what the DPRK government does to these people is extremely violent. May God save the good people of North Korea.

Sorry for double post.

Seeing as above post deals with the stark and brutal reality of North Korea I also want to share a video made by a different Christian organization that speaks to the strength and power of Christians both living in North Korea and also those Christians abroad who are concerned with the situation.

The video gives testimony of some of the persecution in North Korea but it also gives testimony and insight into how North Koreans Christians behave and think about Christianity and the great strength it gives them. Likewise the video also shows the good work this particular organization is doing and also how just a simple prayer for North Koreans helps them in so many ways. The organization asserts that DPRK is the most persecutory of Christians in the world. Now that might be debateable, but either way you know that any persecution in any country is bad. I especially like at the end how the maker of the video points out that you can do a world of good for these people simply by praying, speaking out, or if it is in your power donating to the cause. I am not trying to solicit any money from anyone, remember, even just words alone are of high value.

It's extremely difficult for me to read about North Korea. It seems to me anyone with any kind of sanity would condone this behavior let alone do the things North Korea is doing. Try as I may I just don't understand why certain countries treat their people the way they do. I am sick and tired of hearing "it's just their culture." Right is right and wrong is wrong. What is controlling the minds of their leaders?

It's what the left does, they fawn over a leftist amoral psychopath and sweep them into power in a manner that has all the trappings of a religious experience.

Then, they set about destroying the moral people to create the immoral utopia on earth they are all after.

China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, etc... but now also increasingly in the West.

Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Obama, Kim Jong-un, Herman Van Rompuy, etc... all possess similar characteristics to one degree or another.

Yes they, and the people who enable them, will be judged by God. Indeed.

North Korea is going to judged by God for denying its human rights to its people.

There are good people in North Korea, they don't deserve to be treated they way they are.

From all the documentaries I have seen, the people of North Korea believe in their leaders with a devotion we are not even giving to our Lord and Savior. Even in an evil dictatorship, it is the people and what they believe in that is most important.

That was what brought in Hitler, even. The German people were reacting to losing WWI in a way that was building over the years and losing sight of God if the book The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich was correct.

A Word If I May?

TIBET

If China was so benevolent to the Tibetans, let them benevolate North Korea as well, they are much closer than the U.S.A., and I'm guessing a little depopulation to the tune of a few million foot soldiers wouldn't hurt either.

Oh, wait a minute...didn't the Faux News Channel claim that North Korea has nukular weapons that they are going to sell to tearists that will then be used to blow up our precious democracy (republic)?

And when did the world elect the U.S.A. as the world's police force to manage the internal affairs of other sovereign nations?

So...now we're going to steam across the Pacific in our big boats and do what exactly? Drop off another load of our toxic nukular waste in someone else's back yard in the form of DUM's (Depleted Uranium Munitions), while we bring yet another dictator to justice? Will there be cheering and clapping afterward, maybe a candle light vigil on the White House lawn and some flag waving as they pat themselves on the back for yet another...job well done?

Many apologies, that last statement should read MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The self-styled boy "god" has now decreed that all North Korean barber shops shall only give one haircut: his.

North Korean men must get Kim Jong Un’s haircut* - NY Daily News

I'm assuming the penalty for getting a haircut other than the approved one means the usual: hard labor prison, starvation, and execution in that order.
Reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode where the guy wished everyone would be like him. He woke up the next day and got his wish, he couldn't take it for very long ..(someone help me out on the ending) but I think he ended committing suicide .
