"But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. You had people in that group – excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down, of to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name. "

So which of the white supremacists were the very fine folk? BigSmile.gif

I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her. She's anti-Semitic and ought to be tossed out of office. Ought to be the same for either side that shows they are anti-Semitic and or racist.
I can't believe she's still on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

"Jews will not replace us" chanted white supremacists at the Charlottesville fiasco.

"very fine people on both sides" states Resident Donald Trump.
with this post, you're playing the same game that's going on over the censure of Rep. Omar.

Rather than stick to the topic (which you brought up in your OP), you're deflecting to off-topic matters.

What say you about the fact that Rep. Omar asked a judge for leniency for the 9 men who wanted to join ISIS ... one of the men admitted in court "I was not going there to pass out medical kits or food. I was going strictly to fight and kill on behalf of the Islamic State” — Abdirahman Yasin Daud.

The "case" has to be considered in full context of what she wrote - which you havenay presented.

From Snopes apologetics

Among those who appealed to Judge Davis for leniency was Ilhan Omar, who sent her letter on 8 November 2016 — the same day on which she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives. In her letter (which can be read in full here), she wrote:

As you undoubtedly deliberate with great caution the sentencing of nine recently convicted Somali-American men, I bring to your attention the ramifications of sentencing young men who made a consequential mistake to decades in federal prison. Incarcerating 20-year-old men for 30 or 40 years is essentially a life sentence. Society will have no expectations of the to be 50- or 60-year-old released prisoners; it will view them with distrust and revulsion. Such punitive measures not only lack efficacy, they inevitably create an environment in which extremism can flourish, aligning with the presupposition of terrorist recruitment: “Americans do not accept you and continue to trivialize your value. Instead of being a nobody, be a martyr.”

The best deterrent to fanaticism is a system of compassion. We must alter our attitude and approach; if we truly want to affect [sic] change, we should refocus our efforts on inclusion and rehabilitation. A long-term prison sentence for one who chose violence to combat direct marginalization is a statement that our justice system misunderstands the guilty. A restorative approach to justice assesses the lure of criminality and addresses it.

The desire to commit violence is not inherent to people — it is the consequence of systematic alienation; people seek violent solutions when the process established for enacting change is inaccessible to them. Fueled by disaffection turned to malice, if the guilty were willing to kill and be killed fighting perceived injustice, imagine the consequence of them hearing, “I believe you can be rehabilitated. I want you to become part of my community, and together we will thrive.”

Rep. Omar's letter is the first exhibit in the Sentencing Materials submitted by the attorney for Abdirahman Yasin Daud.

So, again, Locutus, what say you to to the fact that Rep. There should be no leniency whatsoever. Had they been apprehended by American soldiers they probably would have been Court Martialed and punished accordingly. The soldiers may or may not would have been aware of the Geneva Convention when putting those war criminals on trial...

I say it's within her rights to do so - it's up to the courts to decide the sentencing, 30 years seems a bit excessive.

well good then!

let's send Miss Omar to rehabilitation camp where she learns she should alter her attitude and approach towards Israel

after all, a restorative approach to peace with that country and hers (not really the US) would be historic

and her fellow house member with the mouth of nastiness could tag along...and perhaps praticipate in some remedial English courses

you know I'm smarter than to bite at that 'here let me put words in your mouth you did not say so we can make things personal and then I can point out that you resort to ad hominum attacks' childish way of responding

however you must recognize some unsettling facts to use the word 'potential'

oh. almost forgot. about those courts...with so many Big O appointed judges

do you think la Omar would make that appeal to a conservative judge?

yeah, the compassionate speech was just fluff time for the benefit of the gullible

you do know that judges have meetings in their chambers and things are often actually decided within that inner sanctum, right?

political poo poopie do :sneaky:

well at least you recognize some sarcastic humor when you see it instead of getting your fingers in a knot typing out how nasty I am and you will report me and hound me and basically make the husky in my avatar howl
