There is a lot to learn from this case. For now the circus of idiots needs to pull their head in and allow this family to heal.
Restorative Justice has been around for a long time... this is again sensationalism to sell newspapers.

You’re preaching against self righteousness while treading the waters yourself. There’s nothing wrong with speaking out against an egregious act, followed by law-enforcement putting the focus on the deceased having marijuana in his home, followed by a light sentence for a murder conviction. Mark my words, she will be paroled in five years. Five years for killing a man who was sitting in his own home minding his own business. But I digress, no one supposed to be upset about that because you say so.
That is truly not right, forgiveness should never be the basis for a sentence.

This means that a person who is not forgiven should be given a heavier sentence, how is that right?
If this is how courts go, there are going to be a lot of problems in the administration of justice.

We live under the rule of law.

There are places for Restorative Justice .... however the courtroom is not the place.

Courtrooms are for the presentation of the facts of the case, not emotions or spiritual guidance.
What about in most court houses you have the ten commandments hanging on the wall. Or swearing on a Bible, or taking oaths on a Bible? What other kind of guidance do you feel is appointing? Atheism? God is the best judge. It would be wise for any judge to study the supreme judge.

Find me a law that states emotions are banned from the courtroom. Emotions run high. People's lifes are changing. And for that brother to do what he did should of caused emotions to run high. That brother who was the closest you could get to the victim showed the nation what Jesus looked like. It makes me emotional to think about it. That brother was a better Christian than I doubt I could be. I would probably want revenge but he showed what forgiveness is. A topic that even in Jesus is hard to understand why forgive when the individual doesn't deserve it.

It shows what true grace is. Bless the brother and the judge for living out their faith.

by what authority do you judge more harshly than those who were victimized by this act themselves?

Good because forgiveness wasn't the basis for the sentence. The facts was and the jury decided. Ask yourself why did the jury and judge decide the way they did.

And she was punished by the law.
Those of you seeking more harsh punishment are the ones going beyond the law and in doing so disregarding the family that was victimized

In a perfect homogeneous society perhaps.

Wow, we need a court case on the news to demonstrate Christian love, well that is tragic then.

However that is not the point, there is a separation of church and state for a reason and what you advocate does not work.

Christians cannot even see eye to eye on this discussion board

Most likely based on emotion and not the facts, but I have not studied the case so I will not say anymore.

My main point is ...

That type of display is not appropriate.

What happens when it is Muslim judge, is that going to be okay? ... the USA is a secular society not a theocracy.

I have no reason to doubt the verdict because the courtroom was the least bias you could get. And they saw and heard the arguments given. And decided a lesser murder sentencing.

She was charged with manslaughter.

Manslaughter. The unjustifiable, inexcusable, and intentional killing of a human being without deliberation, premeditation, and malice. The unlawful killing of a human being without any deliberation, which may be involuntary, in the commission of a lawful act without due caution and circumspection.

Prosecutors spoke to more than 300 witnesses in their investigation before the evidence was presented and the law was explained to the grand jury.

A murder charge "is intentionally and knowingly committing that act" while manslaughter is a "reckless" action.

Why is it any offense to you if a Muslim judge give somebody a Koran?
you do know that if somebody gives you something you don't want you can throw it in the trash can.
Both the Bible and Quran are available in prisons. we live in a society that is supposed to be free, but we live under the oppression of the perpetually offended. Let the judge buy the book with their own money and give it to whoever they please, why is that offencive? Are you really twisted out of shape because after an official of the state did their job appropriately, then decided to be a human and treat another human as a human? The job was done the sentence was passed in accordance with the law.

Most likely isn't factual. Emotional response didn't come until after the verdict by the judge.

The USA was built on Judeo Christian values. Most of our laws can be traced back to the Bible. Our founders wouldn't even let a atheist be a judge. As long as the Muslim upholds the law that is largely founded in Christian beliefs then it is no problem for them to do their job. If they start defending jihad well that is against the law.

Those are my words for the intent of the law, if you read case law you will find many places where it has been upheld as a fundamental, unwritten concept of the Constitution.

And wrongfully so. so many times.
But what would you expect from corrupted godless politico's that seek to undermine and destroy American heritage and family. Separation of church and state has been used to remove historical monuments prevent teachers from having Bibles on their desk at school to prevent students from praying before sports games and preventing churches from having events at public parks has sought to remove the ten commandments from courthouses, yes separation of church is a concept that has been used in so many destructive ways of course she as a Christian would support that.

unwritten concept means unconstitutional or not warranted. You will not find those words in law. You will find them in a letter between Thomas Jefferson and a group of Baptists.

So nothing in the law says you cannot be a Christian and live by those values even on the job. Our Executive and legislative branch does it all the time with prayers, Bible studies and or like how the President speaks about Christianity regularly.

That is just a secular argument to get Christians to shut up.

Okay, sure lets have all and every religion enter the courtrooms in our present day society that should be interesting.
You do not see the problems I guess.

That is okay, I live in Canada and I see the problems everyday when all religions are equal in the public sphere.... do not worry it is coming your way to.

In California, killing in self defence is justifiable manslaughter.

If you do not believe me then read from the original sources like the founders on their commentary of the first amendment.

No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."
-- Noah Webster
