STATES DO NOT HAVE ELECTORAL VOTES; RIOTS CAN'T CHANGE THAT

In the news there are many anti-Trump riots in the streets. We see deceitful statements as to how these are peaceful. If they stood on the sidewalk or in a public park & protested verbally, I would agree. But taking to the streets against parade permit laws, then blocking traffic, is not
peaceful, but riot. And moreover there has been violence. But trust the mainstream media to
misrepresent things.

The theory has been put forth that the purpose of the protests/riots is to bring about a change in the manner of electing the USA president, who is elected by electors, not the popular vote. But there is an active movement to nullify the effect of the electoral college by states signing a compact to cast State Electoral Votes to the majority winner of popular votes. And a number of states have entered into this agreement. The problem is that the constitution says nothing about STATES HAVING ELECTORAL VOTES!

STATES DO NOT HAVE ELECTORAL VOTES

Some have been opining that the purpose of the Riots has been to get rid of the Electoral College. As a federation our constitution provides for presidental election by electors, not the people's votes. When we vote for a candidate, we are really voting for a state assigned elector, whose name I do not recall ever having seen on a ballot. These electors are proportioned to the states based on how many senators & house reps each has. So a state with 2 senators & 1 rep (the minimum possible) has presidental elections that choose 3 electors.

IMHO:

Evidently the founders did not believe in democracy. They believed in a Republic, or rather a mixed constitution with a strong Republic element. The idea was that the people would select experts better able to choose a president that their dumb selves. Also the large distances between population centers wud have made it hard to tally a national population efficiently. And the results of a presidential election would be slow in coming. Indeed today, Nov 22, 2016, I don't think the popular vote has been yet completely counted & reported.

Now the falsehood is wide-spread that states have electoral votes. The constitution does not give states electoral votes. The constitution states that state legislatures will determine how electors are chosen, and the constitution specifies how many electors each state shall have. But once the states have chosen electors, by the constitution the states' participation is done; the electors personally vote for a president. There is no provision in the constitution for a state or state organization or the governor to control how an elector votes. Notwithstanding, you find lots of references to states having electoral votes on the internet. In fact, states do not have electoral votes.

Thus any agreement between states (& there have been such enacted) whereby a "state's electoral votes" shall go for the person who won the majority of the popular vote is an invalid agreement. For states do not have electoral votes. Electors have electoral votes.

"How are the Electoral College Representatives Chosen" and get the full story........or just SEARCH Electoral College to learn all about all of the process.

Well, if they succeed, there will be blood in the streets.
Maybe that is what they want.
