Blood in the water, here come the sharks

PacWest (PACW) and Western Alliance (WAL) plunged Tuesday as investors remained convinced the worst was not yet over for troubled regional banks.

The stock drops for both institutions came one day after JPMorgan Chase (JPM) purchased the bulk of First Republic (FRC), in a deal that was designed to restore stability to the banking system after two months of turmoil.

PacWest ended Tuesday down 28%, while Western Alliance dropped 15%. Other regional banks also plummeted, including Zions (ZION), Comerica (CMA) and Key (KEY), which all fell between 9-12%.

One new point of pressure on these companies is being applied by short sellers who appear to be targeting lenders they perceive to be most vulnerable. Data from S3 Partners showed short sellers have increased their bets against regional bank stocks by more than $440 million over the last 30 days.

Regional Bank Stocks Plunge as Gloom from First Republic Failure Sinks Markets

As of 1 p.m. ET, the S&P Regional Banks Select Industry Index was down 7.24 percent, the KBW Nasdaq Regional Banking Index was down 6.22 percent, and the iShares U.S. Regional Banks ETF was down 6.35 percent.

Several individual regional bank stocks saw far sharper declines.

Shares of California-based PacWest Bancorp, for example, crashed by over 35 percent, and by 1 p.m. shares were still down by 25 percent, with intense volatility triggering circuit breakers multiple times to halt trading temporarily.

Western Alliance shares also saw several trading stoppages as they fell around 20 percent, while New York-based Metropolitan Bank stock was down nearly 19 percent by 1 p.m.

Looks like PacWest Bancorp is the next one to collapse

Good news!

Only half of these regional banks are in danger of collapsing. This means we have 2,400 banks that aren't currently in danger!

The bad news is after our 3rd bank failing the FDIC has spent more money than they did in 2008.

The next three primed to collapse PacWest, Metropolitan and Western Alliance.

The FDIC is yet another fractional reserve insurance scheme. It can only cover an infinitesimal fraction of deposits.
Think of the situation as if the Titanic was designed with one lifeboat on board.

Well then it is a good thing that SVB with all the Democratic Donors and CCP holdings were able to get that lifeboat.

PacWest Says It’s Exploring Options After Shares Plunge

In premarket trading on Thursday, PacWest was down about 37 percent. Two other regional lenders, Western Alliance and Zions Bancorp, fell 19 percent and 10 percent.
