This is recent, in June, 2024 from what I saw.

From the NY Times June 18, 2024
By Orlando Mayorquín
Published June 18, 2024Updated June 20, 2024
Robert Morris, the founder of a Texas megachurch and a faith adviser to the Trump White House, has resigned from his job as its senior pastor, the church said on Tuesday, days after he was accused of sexually abusing a child in the 1980s.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/18/us/pastor-robert-morris-gateway-church.html
The article is recent, but it is reporting on something from 40 years ago.

Is it true this happened 40 years ago? If so and he has truly repented, what's the problem? What were you like 40 years ago? Would you have gotten rid of Moses because he was a murderer? Kicked David out of office for his adultery and murder? Picked up stones and stoned the woman caught in adultery? Better hope your sins don't find you out.
Seriously, she was twelve!!!

So now we can just whitewash bad behaviour because of the sins of the men in the old testament.
That is how your post reads to me.

Wel it did become a recent issue for the church, so what's your problem?
The church can do as they see fit. But the guy clearly isn't what he was 40 years ago. If he withheld the information from the church then I understand his dismissal. But that doesn't make him a poor advisor now.

No, it's how your mind works. When God forgives someone, He remembers the sin no more. It's interesting...Moses committed murder 40 years before God called him to lead the people out of Egypt. You might have been one of those who murmured against him.

God's forgiveness is not the issue.

Anyone can claim to be called. No wonder the church is a mess.
Sure, but was he? You don't know. And crisis doesn't cause chaos, it only reveals it. If there are genuine problems in the church, they already existed before all of this.

My point is his behaviour was criminal, she was twelve, stop making excuses.

Moses' conduct was criminal. God called him. No one argued it wasn't criminal. At any rate, thanks for the discussion. Blessings.

Amazing she was 12, he forced her to perform sexual acts.

And he called her a "young lady" she was not, she was a young girl, says a lot about him even still.

He is not Moses (sad you could even make such a ludicrous association) and we have laws, not once have you expressed any sympathy for this girl. Somehow he averted jail and you are not even concerned about that.

I will pray for you.

right

and how wonderful that all of our own histories have not suddenly become 'recent issues'

I have zero tolerance of any sort of abuse on a child or even adult, coming from a person in a position of power, but if I didn't know how much 'Christians' like to point the finger at others....if I didn't know....

if I would tell you of all Jesus has forgiven me for, when I knew better, you would tell a mod to ban me

bunch of hypocrites. doesn't it get tiresome carrying all those stones around all the time?

What's interesting is this fellow here, Wade Burleson.

He was the Southwestern Chairman for Southern Baptist Convention but removed.
He ran for politics but booted.
He resigned as a Pastor.

But he now runs a ministry for "abused victims."

He seems to be the force behind both the removal of Robert Morris and Tony Evans, both mega-pastors.

I am just including his highlights and not trying to mar his image. I think he is doing a lot of good. But it does seem there has been friction between Wade Burleson and Robert Morris, Tony Evans, and actually several other ministers and now these Ministers are being taken down. And I am not trying to type this in a nefarious kind of way. It just appears this is how it is.

I mention that because I wonder WHO ELSE might be in the news in the coming days, weeks, months, years, etc...

Christianity is certainly looking awfully bad in the State of Texas right now.

It became a recent issue for his church and RA simply reported it. So there is no need to get all worked up. I have no interest in this anyway, but it has been reported by all the media. You can simply ignore it. And calling people a bunch of hypocrites for discussing this makes you a hypocrite. Why did you even open this thread?

your use of the expression 'getting all worked up' is pretty much a straw man. You don't agree with what I said, so therefore, I must be upset.

oh no....a bunch of hypocrites is not necessairly attributed to everyone here....I was speaking of many Christians in general. Gossip is a tasty dish far too often. Since this event...which is more than a little distasteful....happened about 40 years ago.

God forgives when a person repents, but forgiven Christians just enjoy talking about the sins of others, thinking they would never do such and such. So which sin exactly, will be allowed to enter heaven?

I didn't open the thread. It is not my thread. Do not be so hasty to prove someone wrong and end up wrong yourself (y):giggle:

I suppose the relevance of mentioning the Morris account was intended to imply that Trump has an advisory board on effective ways to seduce children.

The woman who is bringing accusation and the Pastor who is backing her are both registered Republicans. This could sabotage some of the momentum Trump had going for him. No matter what it is, each little incident always seems to cost votes or add votes. Being less than 5 months away from when people vote seems damaging. But I understand her not wanting Morris to continue preaching. Poor woman reminds me when the guy caught the foul ball at Wrigley Field and cost the Chicago Cubs a trip to the World Series. It is what it is. Morris is guilty. Too bad they didn't hang him around December, 2024 instead of June, 2024.

Frankly I have a distaste for all the goings on that occurred with Trump's so called religious advisors. That, apart from the ongoing discussion.

There is no doubt that any dirt that can be scraped together and create the illusion that it is a direct reflection on Tump, is fair and to be expected. There is no doubt of Trump's moral failures but they appear to be connected to adult women and not minors.

So I guess everyone is happy now. Justice has been served. To different people in different places for different reasons.
