If only the sun would rise again a new dawn
When the ground was soaked with the dew of vitality
And the cool morning breeze carried a whisper of promise
“Your life lies ahead. Rise with the dawn and embrace it.”
But the sun won’t rise again
And the breeze is no longer cool
The dew is long gone, never to return
And my life is no longer lying ahead
But rather behind me
What was once a playground
Is now a barren wasteland
Where a field of endless potential once lay
A cemetery now stands instead
And the mind of my youth
Once filled with dreams of grandeur
Now lies a mess
With the debris of regret, hurt, guilt, bitterness
Anger, shame, turmoil and loneliness strewn all over
Is it over?
Yes the sun won’t rise again
We only have one sunrise you know
Then eventually, like a fading flower
Ushering in the twilight years
Of greying hair and stooped shoulders
Of fading memory and missing teeth
Of wrinkled skin and weakened bones
Our sun finally sets…finally to rise no more
But I am told that the Son has risen
Bringing, with Him the magnificent newness of life
Where some simply point an accusing finger
He offers his hand of reconciliation
When the world shouts, “You have erred! Go away!”
He smiles and says, ‘You are forgiven. Go and sin no more!
Where our thoughts seem to whisper “You deserve to die!”
He shows his nail scarred hands and feet
And says “Child, I have died that you might live.”
So I live today for He lives!
For even after the Sun sets and darkness covers me
The Son of God, his Grace indeed still shines
When the ground was soaked with the dew of vitality
And the cool morning breeze carried a whisper of promise
“Your life lies ahead. Rise with the dawn and embrace it.”
But the sun won’t rise again
And the breeze is no longer cool
The dew is long gone, never to return
