My Umbrella

The sun was hot, the wind hotter
but I clung to my umbrella.
Water was scarce, thirst filled my being
but I clung to my umbrella.

Death approached, but so did Hope
but I clung to my umbrella.
The clouds thickened, water did spill
but I clung to my umbrella.

Dry I kept, as the storm did pass
but I clung to my umbrella.
In the desert I died, my fist in resist
as I clung to my umbrella.

This time I would appreciate any guesses on the poem. I had also posted it on a 'neutral ' poetry board and got some surprising 'interpretations'.

My guess would be his own method of salvation - i.e. any way, and truth, any life that is not Christ.

The poem is a picture of an unsaved man (living in the hot desert) , yet dying in his soul, who has a love greater for this world (tight hold on the umbrella). The clouds/storm/water is the Gospel message coming to his hearing but he uses his umbrella to 'protect' himself from the Good news and thus dies clenching (resistance) his umbrella.

This is also a prayer request for my dad who lives in the desert both physically and in his soul, clings to his umbrella of evolution/atheism while hearing the Gospel and is near death.

I thought it was really unique, and now it makes sense since you let it out,I will keep your dad in my prayers.
