"What Can Save From Death?"
The breath of life is here today
But rustles out upon the 'morrow
Who is it that can ever say
When we will meet our final sorrow
The accolades we achieve
And the works we do
go with us to the grave
along with the memories we knew
Fame and fortune will not accompany you
For they care only for those who draw breath
How quickly they will forget you
As they forsake you in your death
It is arrogance to think you have any power
in trying to forestall your end
Death could come this very hour
and with worms your time, you will spend.
Though a 100 years you may own
surrounded by friends and family
In the end, you will be alone
forever to face your eternal destiny
Death does not discriminate
And knows every man's name
Without mercy he will terminate
With no pause of guilt or shame
He never misses his shot
As he gathers all his game
And he will not give a second thought
As your life he comes to claim
Why do we play a game
Whose rules we can not choose
what hope can we obtain
when in the end, we will all lose
Could there ever be any light
In life whose end is the grave
There is but one thing in sight
And from death's grasp it can save
It is this one Hope
And it does not lie in religion
But in a personal relationship
With the One whose Son was given.
Christ and death did contest
And upon a cross it seemed death had won
But in three days, Christ's power did best
As He was proclaimed The Risen One
Death bent his knee
And lay down his crown at Jesus' feet
As all of Heaven did see
The one who never lost, humbled in defeat
Why should God have sent His Son
but to settle the debt man had made
In all of creation there was but none
Whose blood sin's debt could have paid
What great love has been shown
That has broken down death's door
A fountain of love is flowin'
For now and evermore
All those covered by grace
Need not fear Death's sting
For now he has a friendly face
And to Heaven's gates, your spirit, he will bring.
So for what shall we live
But for the One who died and saved us
Every heartbeat we should give
To the Chosen One, Jesus
Glitter and gold all fade away
But your love for Christ will remain
For soon comes The Judgement Day
And all God's children he will come and claim
Who can it be
That may receive this reward
It is only He
that accepts Christ as Lord.
