thats what girls mostly like to play with, aside from the dressing up part, which, you can use old baby clothes for them

Barbie was successful franchise because she was a grown up doll and had a massive wardrobe, but...she was also expensive to clothe, so am not sure whether girls these days are still going for her.

Though I have heard of toy libraries where you can borrow an american girl doll which apparently are very costly but the girls adore them.

when I was growin up, cabbage patch kids were the rage but nobody had them as they were very expensive. I walk into a toy store nowadays and half of it taken up with Lego which is also, very expensive.

So the reverse is true because you have to exchange your NZD into USD to buy our products and goods it means it takes more NZD to buy ours. So businesses are gonna pass that higher cost onto the consumer. So many of the products you sell that are imports are gonna be more expensive and will continue to be so because your active fiscal and economic policy is to keep the Kiwi depressed against other currencies to drive exports.

Mcdonalds had free toys with happy meals

but otherwise, I remember having lots of soft toys given to me and or made for me and never cried over not having any brand name doll or action figure with accessories etc. we knew as kids that american toy commericials were what americans kids played with and bought, but nobody here ever bought them really, so it was kinda stupid advertising them on tv

Although there was one toy that was all the rage called a tamagotchi but it was japanese, but they broke pretty much as soon as they died like all plastic battery powered things do lol


$2 shop slime is what kids like to play with these days. pop its and fidget spinners.

Yeah is quite common. Many emerging markets those countries will do so. Walmart and Amazon has been able to use it to their advantage. To be able to make them the biggest two retailers in the world. They of course are able to sell products at a cheaper cost and more consumers are down with that notion.

Politicians of course use it as a scapegoat. Instead of owning up to their own deficiencies they will create a bad guy and build a narrative. When the fact is their own policies and regulations have and do affect the financial health of the voters more so than outside factors. The expediency of the blame game that politicians like to engage in. Just like now the narrative is that covid and Putin is the reason for inflation............LOL

Ah just a matter of perspective. You are quite vocal when it comes to the topic of money. Which you regularly use terms like expensive or call someone cheap. I find you have a lack of understanding. So my intent since you had mentioned American toy products and again included the word expensive. My intent was just to point how other factors play a part. So it is relative to your overall view of money and how in this case would apply to certain toys being more costly than others especially in the case when the company is a foreign one.

well obviously it depends, american toys are expensive to buy
but then so are books

if they are brand new, arent produced at scale and need to be imported (freight expenses etc)

I rmemeber we had a shoplifter come in the shop

she took about $200 worth of books and toys

she was caught on camera and my boss did catch her
she was shoplifting for her children/grandchildren...she couldnt return the goods cos she'd already given them away

she gave the boss the sob story and he couldnt charge her, he didnt have the heart but she was banned from entering the shop again

I was looking in a teachers catalogue and a set of 8 hand puppets were $327.95

This was an australian company, but still expensive, and you had to order over $299 to get free shipping.

so yea. when you on a budget, especially if you spending someone elses money, you naturally want the best deal or bang for your buck

But...if you can be given things for free, why not, dont look a gift horse in the mouth

anyway, Im a just saying. It can be pricy. What parents can afford lots of brand new toys? I dont think many can when rent, food and bills are more pressing. does this justify high price of toys? well, you can put any value you want on them, retail always whacks a huge margin of them but if they dont sell they just sitting there not being played with....as nobody will buy them

It was adults who were buying the toys in the bookshop not children, and they were buying them for the children it was for themselves, as my boss had a line of model kits, mostly warboats and ships and tanks which required lots of glue to put them together.

some were sold for a few hundred, so not cheap.

But I also recall that my brothers were given model train set, by Hornby, (they did thomas the tank engine) and they were electric and it must have been expensive but I do not recall us girls being given anything like that. I wanted to play too so my brothers grudgingly let me have a freight car.

I do remember one incident in my childhood that showed my brothers got jealous over one toy i was given. It was a talking apple. You spoke into it and a worm would come out. Everyone loved this apple and wanted to have a turn but it was given to me, so I could say who could have turn or not.

well my brothers got so jealous that they broke the apple so that nobody else could even have a turn.

yea I dont know why that toy inspired so much rage lol
