when I was in the miltary, I happened to be stationed near my grandparents house in Monterey, CA. Though I got along well with my grandparents, it was talking to their next door neighbor as a young adult, not a little kid as I had know her before, that I got a glimpse of what my dad's life as a child growing up in the 40's was like. I was amused by the story of how either my dad or my uncle got fed up and announced that he was running away from home, but "postponed" things because my grandmother was making his favorite dinner that night.
I have also shared previously on this site about my friend who passed away in her mid-90's. She was a friend from church with whom I would always flirt shamelessly. She still had her quick wit at that age - an amazing lady. She moved to an elder care home near where I live, so I visited occasionally, bringing over some zucchini cake. It was there that she told me that she only had a couple of months and asked me to arrange some hymns that she had composed and wanted played at her memorial service. She only had the melody, so we went to the facility's piano and I came up with some harmonies and a rhythm pattern that she liked. At home afterwards, I fine tuned things and came up with some vocal harmonies for a trio of women that she had selected to sing at the service. She didn't live long enough to hear the finished product, but knew things were going in the right direction. It was an honor to play her songs at her service.
At her service, I learned that she was an important part of American history, being one of many "Rosie the Riveter" factory girls during WWII.
I can't believe I actually watched this whole video ... what is wrong with me lol my heads totally done in now LOL when I watch this Im glad I know Jesus ROFL
