Focus on God. There is a verse that says "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice." The key to happiness is belonging to God fully, surrendered to Him daily, walking close to Him in intimate relationship daily. Wake up and be with Him, talk to Him throughout the day, tell Him the good and the struggles, leave the struggles in His hands, talk to Him before falling asleep.

Joy and happiness are two separate things. It is possibly to be joyful during suffering - but this does not mean that we are happy.

Happiness is an emotion that can change in any situation. You may be happy that it's a beautiful day outside or that everything seems to be going right. If the weather was horrible or things just kept going wrong, one is typically not happy. Emotions are always changing.

Joy is something quite different in the bible. It's not an emotion, but rather it's state of the heart. You can be joyous in a rough situation because you know that the Lord will see you through it. You know that God will get the glory out of a rough situation. Joy gives us peace (Both given by God). Joy does not go away or change like being happy can.

As for the original question: I think it's important to be positive each day. There are so many struggles in this world I would say that it's hard to be happy all of the time, but one can try their best. Knowing that God loves us and will help us through everything is very powerful and can help. To believe that you could always be happy, may be an unrealistic/unhealthy idea. I think the important thing is to seek joy.

It's ok, I'm happy now. And I didn't even have chocolate. It was just some stupid drama. Thanks for asking, Liz. I need to go buy some chocolate.
