I think there should specifically be a Anti-hooking up policy. Something like highschool church camp (I never wen't, so I'm just guessing here) where a fella and a gal can't accidentally find themselves in a place of temptation by respecting the Billy Graham principal that he had for his own life of never being alone with a member of the opposite gender other than his spouse

ok. All I got time for... wake the kids & ready for church time. :) besides, them dogses is hungry and wanting fed and stuff.

I agree!! This way no one ends up feeling left out. We especially want to avoid going off in little groups
by ourselves because that will end up leaving someone who is not so outgoing by themselves.

Oh! That won't happen !! because those are the people I go talk too... And if they don't like to talk .. I just sit by them ..
I saw in a monastary once .. in the dining room they had a "silent" table..
Believe it or not .. That's where I'd sit ..

I think it would be highly questionable behavior for me to attend a singles event.

So I would have to bring my hubby so's we could behave questionably together.

Or something.

Not quite what I was trying to say, but that's what came out.

oh gosh if it turns into that .. My wheels will be spinning right out of there..
no seatbelt , I'm going with the intentions and motives of getting connected to the right group ..
see what the group is really about .. I'm like concrete with a very slow slow curing time... I'm such a late bloomer ... That it would probably take a year for the foundation that's been mixing to even begin thinking about curing and settling .. I observe and watch and sift and process all of it with God... And I'm quite aware of what oasis look like .. I not stupid ... Lol

How is it that every time I join a vBulletin board, someone starts talking about a meetup? *laughs*

In the early 2000s, I was on an anime fandom vB board, and the next summer, a good chunk of us all met up in Chicago. I drove up in my Geo Metro, and we stayed at a cheap motel but wandered about the city, visiting the Field Museum, the Navy Pier, taking in some local jazz. It was my first visit, and I really fell in love with the city, and made some lifelong friends whom I still love dearly to this day. The board has long since folded, but the friendships live on.

If any US meet-up were to happen with this group, I would be open to the idea, so long as it took place during the summer. In the summer, I can drive (my preferred mode of travel), and I have the extra time with school being out of session. While I get personal days like anyone else, we band directors are notorious for not missing work. But I'll entertain any ideas you guys want to throw out.

If we make a US meetup on the north side of the country, then our Canuck compatriots will be more likely to join us as well.

I want to save some of you a whole lotta wasted time and effort here.
We've had a few groups try to plan an IRL event.
But in the end nothing comes of it due to timing and expenses and such.
We had one group a few years ago who had the place all chosen, and plans for a band and oh my goodness....

BUT when the rubber hit the road......*fizzles*

This is an observation I had at that time..and I'm gonna say it now..

For a website where most users say they can't or won't give even a dollar a month to help pay for expenses/work, for those same folks to act like they're going to spend 100s maybe even a 1000 dollars to go to a real life meetin.....

Well I dunno...I just think the chances of an actual IRL event where it's more than a buck, may mean it ain't gonna happen.

I think we all know we are trying to make plutonium from common household items, but being a wet blanket about it is, well, being a wet blanket. Nuffin personal.

I forgot I wanted to respond to what Still said the other day, until I read a post from
Seatbelt in another thread. I agree with some of what Still says. Yes, there are those
who will not fork out a dime to meet people from CC BUT there are those who would be
willing. I would be one of the willing.

So, back to building castles in the clouds...
I think it'ld be killer stuff if it went down here & I got to drag the willing to a meeting @ my Celebrate Recovery to experience the worship and a personal testimony and then the next night dragged folks out with me to go Contra Dancing! I'd also want to present opportunities to go see the bombing memorial and to hit up the Asian market. I'm sure there's other Uniquely OKC moments that I could share... Hmmm, wonder what they are :p

If you dream hard enough, does it come true?

Dancing?!

I've got...like...6 1/2 left feet...

Makes dancing very awkward.

Oh my goodness! I just had a DUH moment here...here I've been all wanting people to come this direction, but I forgot that I have a couple of family members in Oklahoma that I really miss (you'd never know by the way I just FORGOT, yeesh).

Right, Oklahoma sounds good :p
