I just started grad school, and our first task was to introduce ourselves by answering this question. I thought it was interesting and would make for a good thread:

Imagine you are having a dinner party for 6 famous people (these need to be famous people who are still alive, not inspirational family or friends). Your goal for this party is to have great conversations about anything and everything. Which six people do you invite?

Also, include your two best questions that would spark a lively discussion

I'm guessing we should assume these people will actually come to the party? 'Cause I don't offhand know any famous people.

I'd invite: Tom Brady, Pres. Obama, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Pertwee, Steve Carell, and James Roday.

I'd probably ask Tom if he really did deflate the footballs.

I'd also ask everyone to imagine they were having a dinner party and ask them to tell us 6 famous people they would invite, as well as two topics of conversation they would bring up. I'd then come back to this thread and give a 2nd topic, because I can't think of one lol.

Aw man... they have to be currently alive? That leaves out so many... Corrie Ten Boom and Margaret Thatcher, Oskar Schindler, CS Lewis. You are killing me Hoss!

I'll have to go with Neil Armstrong, Yisrael Kristal (holocaust survivor and oldest living man), Ravi Zacharias, Queen Elizabeth II, S. Truett Cathy (founder of Chick-Fil-A), and Scott Kelly (spent a year alone on the international space station).

1. I would ask them to share a time when they had to make an incredibly difficult decision, how they chose their path, and how they feel about it now.

2. I would ask them to share a time when they had to be their bravest, live in absolute faith, and how they coped with that.

I have been informed that two of the above people are no longer living. The dinner party is canceled, people. :p

hmmmm. this is SO hard. i think i would be inclined to invite people who have experience or insight into the universal life experiences.

i am thinking of old people. i love listening to old people who have lived life, and the first old(er) people that come to mind are:

henry kissinger, (german-born diplomat/politician)
john mccain (senator, former POW)
jane fonda (activist)
billy graham (evangelist)
itzhak perlman (violinist, conductor, polio survivor)
robert redford, (activist, artist)

i'd say queen liz if someone hadn't already. ; p

tell us about a pivotal time in your life, and how that choice is different than what you'd choose today.

if your life was a class, what has your life's experience taught you?

what is the greatest obstacle facing young adults today? how does that compare with the greatest obstacle facing your generation?

*toss up between Matt Chandler and Tommy Nelson
*Mike Rowe (former host of Dirty Jobs, blue collar advocate)
*Rachel Maddow (liberal talk show host)
*Matthew Barnett (Sr. Pastor L.A. Dream Center, homeless outreach)
*Elon Musk (Tesla & Paypal)
*Gloria Steinem

Before anyone totally freaks out, because I know most of you wouldn't be caught dead in the same room with a couple of these people, let me explain. My goal was to stir conversation, so I chose people with very different views who could thoroughly discuss whatever question was asked from a multitude of perspectives.

Two questions I would ask:

1) Are we more connected now than we were a decade ago?
2) What group are we still prejudice the most against?
