I struggle with the tv show, they didn't seem to want commitment before the relationships became physical. It normalized the one night stand. It's dangerous in that respect. They made their characters likeable and friendly
I found the whole porn thing questionable like it was so nomalised and the girls werent even bothered by the boys watching it. I dont know if its normal amongst twenty somethings or whether it was just an american culture thing!

Also the parents of the friends were pretty loose too. They werent exactly supportive of their offspring.

why

just seems strange
I mean there was one episode where monica and chandler were babysitting and they wanted to have sex, but then Joey saw they wanted to do it in front of Emma and took the baby away.

Even though Joey once had to hide his magazines (or 'romance novels') away from Ben. I think Monica and Chandlers adopted children would likely grow up with their parents having sex in front of them as Chandlers parents didnt exactly set a great example..his mother was an erotic novelist, and his dad was a drag queen, while Monicas parents once made out in the bathroom while she was hiding in there. Plus they ignored her and favoured Ross.

No child should ever see their parents doing it. I mean really. But its like in the show they make a huge joke of it. Phoebes parents were a 'threesome' and Joeys parents were in an open marriage. Rachels parents divorced. None of them of them had great role models.

Its like they were all thrown in the deep end to figure it out.

One time they did come close to anything spiritual in the show was one Ross nearly took a Bible from a hotel...he had taken everything else that was complimentary that wasnt bolted down. He said he wanted to read about Jesus.

It was generation X the children of the hippie parents of the 60s.
Probably the lost generation. They were so messed up its not funny (but it is sort of funny on a tv show)

they dont actually show anyone having sex on Friends though...its just sort of implied.

Its not Sex and the City, another tv show which was obviously all about it. In that show it was about four female single friends in NYC, and they have lunch together (not at the same coffee shop) but fancier places, and talk about who they are dating. They dont all live together and for some strange reason, all their family is absent. They all have decent jobs though and can afford to live on their own.

One of the girls, who plays Charlotte, I think it was, also played one of Joeys dates on Friends. She dumps him tho.

That show (Sex and the City) was supposedly about how the four of them were really good friends too, but I dont think they were really THAT great friends. It was more about Carrie Bradshaw having enough copy for her newspaper column about being single in NYC. Carrie Bradshaw being a thinly disguised Candace Bushnell.

I guess they are trying to show young women that they can live a life in this way and we happy. Maybe it is what some people want. But I do wonder when in any of these shows they will start to talk about the Loneliness or the inner spiritual needs of a person

The Friends tv show centred around Rachel, who was the JAP - the Jewish American Princess, who turned down a marriage and security for life in the city.
In the first episode, she runs out of her wedding to Barry. She then finds that hes sleeping with her bridesmaid Mindy.

Shes pretty much facing homelessness and social disgrace, and so wheedles her way into Monicas apartment, and faces having to earn a living...i.e get a job. Which she has never had before and wouldnt have needed had she married Barry.

Then theres Ross, also facing social humiliation when his wife decides to come out as a lesbian and run off with her lover, while also pregnant with his child.

In the Friends world, these two people (Ross and Rachel) are meant for each other. Only because Ross had a crush on Rachel in the 9th grade.

Talk about being on the rebound....

Yes, well its all very much like the story of Rachel and Leah and Jacob in the Bible....

Ross being the Jacob like character, and Leah his other unfortunate second wives and dates...Rachel being the beautiful Rachel...Jacob works for 7 years in order to marry Rachel

In the Friends TV series they are sort of on and off for seven years. And Rachel is very competitive and jealous of anyone else who likes Ross, even though they might be better for him. Ross is a bit of a doofus, like Jacob was.

Rachel is so desperate to have children that she seduces Ross. But she also gets him drunk and they marry on Vegas. Basically they act very immature, though they are in their twenties when everyone is immature and does stupid things.

sorry I dont mean doofus I mean Ross was more like a dweeb

Or in Jewish terms a nebbish.

Jacob and Esau were opposites in the Bible. Jacob was the stay at home, nerdy one and Esau was the wild hunter one.

I am pretty sure if someone wanted to make an ensemble TV show called BROTHERS about a dysfunctional family of 12 sons and 1 daughter where the husband has two wives trying to keep both happy it would be a hit.

Or you could just read the Bible.

I came back to this old thread

why because I came across this Danielle Steel novel in the bargain books bin and its called The Apartment about four single girls sharing an apartment in NYC. I think it was written way before Friends tv show.

The other is that sex and the city tv show now has a reboot with 3 of the characters reuniting called 'and just like that' (maybe they dont have sex anymore)

So they were able to have two movies and an entire series made years after they finished the show (think it ran for about six seasons) but the Friends did not.

Jennifer Anniston still gets herself on the cover of hags mags. She may not be the main feature but her pic is still there and everyone is STILL interested in her love life. ?! dont recall Courtney Cox or Lisa Kudrow ever getting so much coverage, but then again they did not marry Brad Pitt.

I am reminded of Friends at this time of year when Phoebe rescued the sad christmas trees and Ross was the holiday armidillo. I think if anybody doesnt really know what Hannukah is, they could do worse than learn about it from The Holiday Armadillo.

Friends is a funny feel good show that we all probably wish we had friends like that. I have quite a few friends but I am more into quality than quantity friendships. I like a two way street. I never push and pursue a friendship. We all want to feel wanted, so I make sure I am wanted back to continue any friendships. I am a strong introvert, so alone time is not a problem with me lol. God is my best friend. He really is all I need. I never rely on anyone liking me, to have the confidence knowing my self worth.

In one episode it was revealed that Monica and Phoebe had a kind of falling out, where Phoebe was trying to distance herself from Monica, who was being a bit too controlling....but it didnt work because Monica 'clawed her way' back into the friendship.

eg she hung on. Monica also used her cooking skills to basically bribe people to like her. She was the mother hen of the group though and I think the entire show/gang would have fallen apart without her.

Hi, I think that this is just a movie compilation that was made by a youtuber friends fanatic who turned it into a movie... I could be wrong though... 🥴 but I have never heard of a reboot too, last gig they had was the reunion.
