God always here us when we call to him. God answers in his own time and his own way. God always knows what is best and we must be able to accept what he says even through it is not what we want to here. The main thing is trust and obey God because he will never fail us.

Psalm 34:15 15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry;

Amen! We fail him, but thank God he is faithful to never leave us, never forsake us, never fail us. If we would think of this verse, his eyes are on us, when we are about to do something that might not be pleasing to him, our lives would be so much closer to him. He hears us, he sees us, he loves us, and as you said he knows what is best for us, even when we dont think so.
