Have you been a big brother or sister to someone ? How ? Why? And, yeah, the journalist in me is asking you, too...

what?
Where?
How were you a big brother or sister, ? And, doesn't't have to be from that program, can be, but just want to know how God has maybe had you help someone in need .

And, maybe you just want to be a mentor , by all means, you can tell us , and, sure, do know that you are telling God too :)

And, let's do a poll, as, as singles, we have more time, right?
So let's just DO an anonymous poll to see if you want to be a mentor or, maybe you already are now.

Fair enough.

God bless you all, and, remember, being not a mentor is just FINE, God has us WirEd all did, He has gifts us all according to His plans for us and, we ALL have GIFTS from the Holy Spirit we can use TODAY and, onward :), soldiers ;) , from gifts of speaking in tongues to teaching to preaching to.YouTube station witnessing to mentoring , and, more, so much more. :) Don't EVER feel guilty if you can't do something , God made you FREE (innocent) the moment He died on the cross .

So, what have you done to help someone(s) , can be one time or many times, say whatever our Lord has on your heart. :)

I have been a mentor to a few children over the years, and I actually just recently applied to be a Big Sister for our local chapter. Over my lifetime I have had several mentors / influences and I hope to give to those children what I have been given growing up.

"And, let's do a poll, as, as singles, we have more time, right?"

Thanks, I feel all warm and comforted now. Lol. LOTS of alone time on my hands!

Right now as I'm posting, it's 25% on the polls across the board (except for on 'No'). I would like to be a mentor someday; it takes a lot of responsibility to model a good lifestyle for someone else, so I'm not in a hurry. Right now, I probably need a mentor myself!

Yeah, that didn't come out quite right, just meant to say, as singles, we are not married so no devotion to someone else, that is, unless you have bf, gf, or kids, then, of course, you have other devotions.

It's all good. The Lord leads :)

Neat, and, chcSURVIVOR , I myself not been in big sister or big brother program, and, I will prob post story here too in some capacity but when I was 34, for 3-4 years, I was heavily involved in helping a 22 year old chrisitan young man understand life and he was challenged some but he was smart too and it is just interesting how God works in our lives :)
_______
I probably, in some ways , took on that challenge because, besides God leading it to happen one day in a singles Sunday school room, I have a friend I have been friends with now for a long, long time and he has wife and 2 kids now but he, when he was 20, was a big brother to a 13 year old kid in that program.

Yes, neat, that would be a great experience to help out someone younger in need, who, a lot of times, has very little parental influence around and you become it. :)

Yep that's just it - It is sad in our society today to see the examples children are trying to look up to and follow that just aren't there or aren't matching up with what God would like for them to be. The Bible talks about raising children in the way they are to go - well - if someone else has the ability to do that, then ... teach away! :)

The bible ways should be the teaching ways of children, chcSURVIVOR , and, btw, my mom went through cancer three times and BEAT it every time, halelujah! , I know that God's plans work differently for all, but, seemingly, times I pray about friends ill with cancer or congestive heart failure for another, and, hope looked pretty lost for chf person, GOD brought in miracles to dry my eyes and answer my prayers :) .

Look no further than...

'Jesus love me this I know, for the bible tells me so. '

Now, once that is understood by a kid, as God gets into their life, the rest is EASY ! :)

The Lord leads.

I think people can think you need money too, to mentor.

My lovely peeps, you don't , not even a cent, in some cases. Just a <3 that is open and trusting to God. Sure, materialism, so to speak, helps , and, is nice too to help, but God will provide all the material 'isms' you need. :)
----
Yes, CC, not easy to raise kids in the double standard, internet craziness, Hollywood culture world we live, but quite possible to show our God-standards by our living example life for others, like our kids, who DO follow their parents' influence MOST in life, to follow. Easier for some than others to pick Dobson (kid movies of Focus on the Family) cartoons over Disney cartoons, and, YES!,, the Lord leads, but God CAN use Disney in your circle of life, too. :)

I meant , 'chcSURVIVOR.'. I mean, i talk to you, CC , too here if you like but, Yeah, ok, where was I?

*green opens up his top, takes out and shakes his green brains, and, puts them back in.

So, Yeah, and, while here, with mentoring and helping a kid who has a tough upbringing/family dysfunctional, etc. it is important to to this act unselfishly from the start. The Lord leads.

I know personally in my mentoring that I could have done things less selfishly, I could have for instance chose better moral value movie to see, as the Lord was leading one time I took mentoree to flick, saw 'saw' series movie when 'Max payne' was also at theatre. (And they, who was before choosing a lot worse R movies than that to see was wanting, near 3-4 tail-end time of my being with them a lot helping them CHOSE 'MAX payne,' a Christian movie in theatre , over Saw! :( sigh)

Anyway, Yeah, it's not for everybody and I pray, despite some choices not perfect, that the Lord led me to do the mentoring, and, really, get a new friendship is what it should be that continues a lifetime, although I admit i should see my mentoree more .

So just let the Lord lead and good that came out of my mentoring was he going to live on own , off parents tab, and, got good job, despite no car and biking to work 6 months straight and did eventually get fired but anyway, He still lives for God best he can and that is with many ups, downs , as is casé for us all 'fallen' folk. But God fell long ago and that BROKE all our falls forevermore with His loving hands underneathe those that simply chose/choose Him, vía the easy 'believe' words of John 3:16 :)

Anyone notice that "yes" and "I want to in the future" are the same thing?

Oh, I know I need a mentor. Anyone planning on going anywhere far is probably wise to have some type of mentor or another who's already experienced all the stuff ahead. I believe I'll have a mentor someday. Some of my friends (they're all married; man, I'm often the third wheel!) say they need a mentor too. I guess we're just being smart. You can never be too so.

I am a CC dad on here now. Being a postive role model for a young person is a great feeling.

In the ministry I was working with I mentored 7 young women. While I enjoy mentoring, and hope to continue mentoring young women over time, I really think it's valuable to acknowledge the need to be mentored. I really need a mentor and I also need to continue mentoring.

...and did Jesus mentor 12 or did he disciple 12 and mentor 3?

Mentoring and discipleship are pretty much the same. Pretty much. I believe Jesus discipled more than twelve (remember the 72 He sent out to preach and perform miracles, things they learned by watching Him, denoting mentoring and discipleship) but that He focused mostly on the twelve and then most on the three. Some mentees or disciples will be more open or 'ready' (chosen to be taught more) than others.

Discipleship is more teaching the study of one subject, you can be a disciple of any learned discipline

Mentoring is an act that you engage yourself in someone's life with intent of imparting world knowledge to them so they can maybe not make same mistakes you made. And, mentoring is for developing someone's character, personality, and, also, helping them go after goals down the line having them understand where there life is now but where it could be if they get a job in this field or just get a job for money to do things like buy a car, get apartment. And, its like discipleship in one sense , in both you befriend and help grow and teach .
