Hey Everyone,

In another thread, our own infamous Desdichado outlined a streamlined 5-step method for finding True Love (or something like that.) Granted, when you've been single for as long as many of us have, the definition of "True Love" can mean anything from a new puppy (which one friend is currently on the hunt for,) to the perfect blanket, to a well-cooked steak. Feel free to dream up your own meaning of what your "true love" might be!

I have always wanted to try doing a thread based on those old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, but after years of pondering, I still haven't quite figured out how to map one out (especially since I'm not a storyteller,) so I figured, hey, why not try this in the meantime. :)

The Singles Forum is Out to Find True Love, and We Need YOUR Help!!!

Your Mission:
Read over the descriptions of the teams we'll need in order to meet Desdi's 5 Steps for Finding True Love, then tell us which team or teams you'd like to apply for. Think of it as filling out a resume (a list of your skills and experience) that would make you ideal and why YOU would be a great addition to the team.

To give you an idea, I'll include some things that might be needed for each team (but feel free to say why you are qualified for other reasons as well, NOT just what's on the list!) So without further ado, here we go!!! Put on your sense of adventure and let's have some fun. :)

Desdichado's 5 Steps for Finding True Love!

1. Step 1/Team 1 Mission: Locate the Seeing Stone.

Possible Skills Needed: good with directions, maps, and mythical places; excellent eyesight or at least be keen with advanced echolocation (proven biological dolphin, bat, or whale ancestry not necessarily required.)

2. Step 2/Team 2 Mission: Kill the Evil Wizard Guarding the Seeing Stone.

Possible Skills Needed: knowledge of wizard's weaknesses; accurate slingshot aim (think David and Goliath, if wizards can be killed with slings); weapons and strategies specialists.

3. Step 3/Team 3 Mission: Ask the Seeing Stone for the Location of Your True Love - whoever or whatever that may be to you!

I know someone out there is going to say their True Love is Jesus, and that they already know how to find Him, and that's just fine! :)

But for anyone who would like to participate in this little side-adventure --

Possible Skills Needed: communication and linguistics specialist; expertise in charm and manners -- possible Canadian or Southern USA ancestry. After all, we don't know what kind of personality the Seeing Stone has, so we might need someone on the team who knows how to ask nicely. People in Canada and the Southern USA seem to have reputation for extreme politeness, so it might be handy to have one on the team. On the other hand, the Seeing Stone might also be very Sarcastic, and in THAT case, experts in "Talking Smack" are also encouraged to apply.

4. Step 4/Team 4 Mission: Confirm Location.

Possible Skills Needed: If you can't tell us where your keys are right at this very moment, we probably don't want to pick you for this team -- please apply for something else. There's room for everyone here, just not on this team! :geek: But if you're the person who knows where everything is (including where everyone ELSE'S things are as well,) we definitely need you!!! Moms and Dads who are experts and knowing where their child's socks, homework, and binkies have landed will be given special consideration for this team! :)

5. Step 5/Team 5 Mission: Throw a Cloth over the Seeing Stone Before the Dark Lord Can See What You're Up To.

Possible Skills Needed: good with throwing things such as nets (experience on "The Deadliest Catch" will earn you brownie points), blankets, and if nothing else, beach towels (just as long as you can cover things accurately -- your pet parrot's cage may or may not count); those experienced with throwing axes are encouraged to apply, as our Logistics Specialist says that an ax might come in even handier than a blanket -- who would have thought. o_O

Now, as far as an assembling a Search and Rescue/Extraction Team goes, I'm not sure. These were the only steps given -- so that might be an idea for another thread. :)

YOUR MISSION for THIS thread: Read this over, pick a team or two you'd like to apply for just for the fun of it, then tell us what you want to apply for an why. We don't really care what skills you may or may not have, we just want you to come with us and have a good laugh while you're at it. :D

* Do you see any strategies or skills for each team adventure that are missing and will be needed? Feel free to point those out and tell us how you, or someone else, can help!

* Do any of the descriptions remind you of any particular CC members who might be qualified for a particular task? Feel free to give them a shout out and tell us why! (For instance, when I was writing about "Communications Specialist", the FIRST person that came to my mind was @MultilingualMessenger, of course!)

Most of all, this thread is just meant to be a fun escape and team-building exercise as we all learn about who would want to do what, and why!

Here's to the Indiana Jones in all of us. :)

Team two needs magicians and/or strong anti-magic. Nothing else will do. Even a tactical nuke would be ineffective against a wizard of sufficient power.

Try to enlist Hawkgirl on the team. Her mace has strong anti-magic properties. It even gave Dr Strange fits.

I think I could qualify for team 1, 3, or 4. Basically I'll leave the fighting to other people but navigation, communication, and never losing things are some of my specialties.

Please note that if I'm on team 3 we might just be directed to the nearest pizza place or dog pound. I'm not always that discerning in love and find I like a lot of things better than other people (then again how can everyone being mobbed by affectionate puppies be an unhappy ending?).

Are you trying to say that my asphyxiation due to severe allergies to pet dander would be a happy ending??!!! o_O:geek::ROFL:

Thinking more about Team 2, you should also recruit somebody strong in the Force. Force Suppression is a power that takes down magic... er, Force shields and removes any spells... er, Force powers that increase strength, speed, defense, etc. Having a wizard... er, Jedi to take down the wizard's defenses might be critical.

I volunteer jilly and cinder for Team 4. Both of them are really good at noticing minor details everybody else misses.

You could read wild at heart and captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge.
I read at least one John Eldredge books a few years ago, particularly one whose title I can't remembe, but I do recall him talking about trying to fight a porn addition while wanting to love and honor his wife. I just didn't find his books to be relatable to where I was in my faith at the time. Rather, I found my style to be more Philip Yancey -- "Disappointment With God," "Where Is God When It Hurts," "Reaching for the Invisible God," etc.

I liked his books so much that I sat down to write a fan letter (sent through old-fashioned snail mail,) and Mr. Yancey was kind enough to answer with a personalized reply and an autographed book.

I've had the goal of trying to read all his books, but haven't gotten there quite yet.

But maybe someday I'll try picking up one of Mr. Eldredge's books again.

Ah it seems we need a team 6.... quartermaster and requisitions. The someone to obtain, inventory and make sure we bring all the stuff we need for this mission (including lots of antihistamines, the cloth for covering the seeing stone, maps, compasses, magic resistant armor, etc). You just know we'll forget something important if we don't have a team in charge of it.

I've heard about Kim's list and packing regimen. Maybe she'd be a good fit for team 6.

Unfortunately, it's still NO match for YOUR packing and organization skills, so I must bow in respect to a master.

I've only read those two of the Eldredge's.
