How can singles do the Lord's work?

for me God comes first even over family...this is hard for marrieds to accept cos they cant follow Jesus when they got so much demands on their time.

So I understand what Paul is saying. When people marry its like eveyone is dependent on you,if you are female its worse because your husband can be like a baby, wanting your body all the time, not to mention your children who cant even feed themselves for the first few years or so. even if they can start cooking meals by the time they reach 12 years its not really advisable to let them loose in the kitchen when they are toddlers.

What does doing the Lord's work mean for singles (I include divorced, elderly singles, widows, etc.)? It is generally agreed upon that since singles have more spare time, we should be spending more time doing the Lord's work. But, what exactly does it mean and what type of work should we be doing? Aside from the more riskier/extreme options such as being a missionary abroad, the first thing I can think of is volunteering more at church. What does it mean to you?

Marrieds can respond too, but I do not think they are expected to do the Lord's work as much as singles.

I was single until 53 and had to do all my laundry, cooking, cleaning, errands etc. for myself which people forget about with singles. I also wanted to study the Bible so I didn't have as much time as some thought.

Being allowed to serve was a chore. A couple of times I was told it was because I was single and 40 (at that time), and therefore I wasn't trustworthy. My experience was that having ministry involving people was going to be a challenge as a single. I found most of my service with a new church plant, a church that needed everything, so that was a good opportunity.

Since I am married now, I still must serve. Most pastors are married yet are expected to put in a minimum of 50 hours a week and be on call.
