I read a book by a Christian author on this topic a few years ago. He talks about how God uses symbols that we would understand. One example is, that often people have dreams of been chased/running or hiding from someone or something. This shows there is a fear of something. Perhaps the enemy is harassing you is some way. This is when you have to ask God to show you the truth. Perhaps also praying for God's protection over you while you sleep. One time in my late teens, I had the same dream of been chased, night after night. And I got to the point where I didn't want to go to sleep. So I talked to my mum, and she prayed with me before I went to bed, and I didn't have that dream again.
I've had lots of dreams which depict me getting on a train, but before I get to the station that I'm heading to, I get off, and then catch a train back. And then I get on another train, but get off before I get there. This kinda depicts that in my life, I'm not getting to where I want. Like taking one step forward, two steps back. I hope one day I have a dream that depicts me getting to the train station that I want to get to.
Another time, I had spent a lot of time wondering and worrying about my father's salvation. and I prayed that God would show him, etc. But one particular night, I had this dream that I visited my dad at his work place. When I got there, I walked straight into his boss' office. When I walked in, John Howard (former Aussie Prime Minister) was in the office. I kept asking Mr Howard about my dad's insurance. But he wouldn't answer me. Instead he told me that he knows who I am. Any way, eventually, Mr Howard told me that my dad's insurance was none of my business, and it was between my dad and him.
Do you see the answer to this dream? It's an easy one, but it shows how God uses symbols that we understand.

Yes, I see, this dream was of your father. In Scripture, speaking of prophecy, which Isis touched on, God says that we are to only believe prophecy if it is to come true. Now, it also says, per Deut. 13, that when someone speaks to do something like 'worship other gods,' that we are to not follow that kind of prophesying.

NOw, regarding your dad's salvation, YOU let the Lord lead, but, if your dad is not a Christian, I think, the best way for you to be in that situation is to go to church yourself, be the 'bride of Christ' as Scripture tells us 'the church' is. Read your bible around your dad, even if he is not participating. Do things in your life that model good Christian but also moral behavior.

Sometimes, we are the only Jesus other people will ever venture to see. :)

Dreams, like many gifts from God, is a learning process and like most gifts and talents, only grow with exercise and utilization through faith. I'm not saying that all dreams are gifts from God, some are simply what ever is on your mind at the time. It can be a worry or concern, or simply a remembrance triggered by the day's events. For those that receive spiritual dreams, it could be as simple as God trying to spurn you into some action, or provide some assurance. For others, it could be something grander like prophecy or a call for awakening by a group. Regardless of the content, wether it be thought or Spirit driven, it requires time to reflect and analyze as we take it before God in a time of communion, seeking clarity through The Scriptures and prayer.
The best thing I like about your post is everything said, Kjvjohn1511, bro. I truly believe this, they are not just some random thought we are thinking of. They are --good or bad--God's way of speaking to us about things that WE THINK are important in our life and we can ACTUALLY see the events play out. And.....IF those events-sex with someone were not married to, or, just sex before marriage in dreams, stealing from someone, tripping on coke, etc.--are carried OUT in your dreams, then, we really need to pray to God. We need to REALIZE that there is something going on there, there is something happening there, and, without Him, it ain't going to be exactly clear. But, we give THAT DREAM to Him and everything will be made exactly clear .

God is wanting us to give pause of our life, through our dreams. He wants us to STOP. Realize what that 'sound' is in our dreams, for it will be something, too, IN our life that He wants us to look around at and see what's going on that needs CHANGED :)

The Lord leads :)

Excellent post ! I highlighted some parts but it's just a word-for-word inspired post from Him , as I see it. God bless your 'great' words said there, brother, I pray others see so much from that content :)

yes, we are all the same, in fact, it's a great blessing for the marrieds to give wise wisdom from their experiences that God's shown them so that other singles can sidestep that trap or thing that befuddled , or, even, bound them, Hiscrustacean :)

Yes, Joseph interpreted dreams that he received from God. In one case, the dream he had was from God and showed that he would rule over his mom, dad, and, brothers. His parents said, 'Oh, OK, Joseph,' or, similar.

But.... Joseph's brothers then connived a plan to get rid of Joseph because of the hatred they felt toward their youngest brother, who would one day lord over them.

Daniel's dreams interpreting King Nebuchanezzar, too, speak the same way, of God showing Daniel Himself through dreams interpretation of the king.
I was not referring to just their roles in said happenings, but the usage of interpreters by God which should never have change unless He specified that that is over somewhere in His Word. Which I have not read and I've read the Bible at least once in my lifetime.
Also don't forget that Joseph interpreted while he was in prison.

If God is was and always will be the same, i believe this to be true, do you suppose that we ought to consider the dreams Daniel and Joseph translated? or is that not good for me to bring up.
Sorry, not sure what to say then, but, I will say that when we dream during the night, we should be able to wake up and remember the dream. If it's a dream of sex, drugs, etc. that is something that is not a part of a good Christian lifestyle, then, Scripture says many things, but either something is from God or it's The Enemy. There is no in-between.

We need to be cognizant of our dreams, as much as we can be, and, just wake up and realize we can entertain the good feeling of that guilty pleasure or we can say , 'Lord, take me to dreams that please you, bring glory to you.'

I know, I sound a little silly saying this, perhaps. But, I'm serious , and, I'm not just serious, I'm dead-serious. YOUR dreams can influence YOUR life. Entertain good things IN and OUT of your consciousness, God will help you. Just ask :)
