I think this is a question that you will have to answer for yourself. If you feel that the violence and gore are affecting you spiritually or mentally then it may be better to give up watching such movies.

However, I wonder how can someone enjoy watching a movie as revolting as "The Human Centipede".
I was wondering about that too. lol I won't be digging into horror films now. Not that it's affecting me spiritually or mentally. Maybe it will in the future, so I better stop now.

Just watch part of Thriller. of Michael Jackson, and tell me what you liked there (He said, as Intro; "he doesn´t believed in the ocult") so, at your age, do you know what draws you there?

I cut that part of the cemetery, picturing the resurrection of DEAD ones... Do you liked that?

I hope you find it out!
Just finished watching the video. I'm not a huge fan of MJ but it was really good. I liked the part where he turned into a werewolf, lol the girl was freaking out. I love zombie movies and it was really fun watching them dance. lol. But I decided not to watch horror movies again. It weighs in on my depression. I watched only, in the past, when I'm depressed because it somewhat helped me feel a bit better. Now all I do is pray and ask God for His comfort and healing. Thank you.

I can't speak for someone else, but personally I can't watched that stuff because I'm a huge wimp. So it would not be alright for me. :)

I know some people have the ability to emotionally disassociate a movie's fantasy completely from reality. And horror films do not affect everyone the same way. Some people can even find them funny. For some people the films could probably do some psychological damage (get inside your head, mess with your thoughts, influence your dreams, interfere with sleep, etc.), while for some others, it won't, and it doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with you if it doesn't. Maybe you are good at disassociating it from real life. *shrugs* Only you can tell for yourself.

I saw a film with some friends called Stoker. It is an 18. I said I thought it was stupid but afterwards I kept thinking about it. It was extreme and very dark. But it made me think about things in ways I shouldn't. An Education not a horror did the same thing. I think there are some dark and wrong parts in my head and that I shouldn't watch certain films or the badness comes out. Its like I want to be one person and then another part of me is a another person and some things like films wake the wrong me up.

I love all sorts of films, from the classics to the modern ones.

But something must be wrong with me.. I enjoy watching movies like Saw, Wrong Turn, Human Centipede, Anabelle, Conjuring, etc. Some of my friends think it's weird that I watch Hannibal and AHS. These are some of the things I have to let go as I continue my walk with Christ. These movies doesn't really affect my way of thinking or the way I see other people or my relationship with God. Do I really have to give them up? I won't hesitate, though. I don't want to disobey God.

Also, I don't tell my parents I watch these sorts of movies.

Your thoughts?
Hello there BeaRhea;

I do commend you for your honesty. But to just be straight with you in answering your question.

Yes; you should give those movies up. It is a sin to watch horror movies. Why? Because when you watch a film that contains horror in it, or fornication, or nudity, or profane language, or perversion, etc. You are disobeying these very Scriptures:

Psalm 101:3 KJV
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Romans 12:9 KJV
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Furthermore, when we watch the wrong kind of films and shows, it will affect our spirit.

And so the best thing for any Christian to do who has listened to the wrong kind of music or watched the wrong kind of films is to simply repent before God and by doing that, you'll get right with God. And the fellowship with your heavenly Father will be restored.

How so? Do you think this is the case with everyone? Or only those weak in spirit/in the Lord?

Yes
Or only those weak in spirit/in the Lord?
Especially those who are weak are affected by definition of "weak."
How so? Well, consider the weak in spirit and consider the strong in the Lord.

Those who are weak in spirit need the strength of the Holy Spirit to deliver them out of their bondage (weakness), right? Watching horror after horror is not God's definition of Christ coming to set the captives free, isn't it?

As for those who are strong in the Lord (not weak in spirit), why would that group find enjoyment in watching horror after horror?

The whole purpose of being "strong in Christ" is precisely overcoming the world by the righteousness of Christ reigning over you. Anything "horror" would have zero association with a person under the control of the Holy Spirit of God. :)

Hello there Siberian, I believe it is the case with everyone.

Even the strong Christians. Afterall, that command given by God in His word to abstain from it is for every Christian. Not just the weak ones.

God knows that all that violence and horror will affect our spirit in the wrong way.

I don't think it's a sin, but personally I cannot watch something horrible happening to another human, even though it is a movie.

As with any movie, it's a case by case basis.

Some horror is good because it plays with our perception of reality or tells a good message. Other forms of horror are not so clever.

Some of Hitchcock's movies are really good, like per example The Rope. He is basically analyzing guilt and guilty conscience of man in that movie and tells us the truth, how evil men want to do evil and get away with it, congratulating themselves. There is no blood or gore in the movie but it gives thrills and actually delivers a godly message. Something similar was done by Dostoevsky in Crime and Punishment.
I dont like a lot of other horror movies, mostly they have no point, and dont make anyone think, they just serve to scare and show bloody gore.
I dont really watch horror movies. I might watch such or a movie with horror elements if a movie is good overall with a good message. I dont like movies that glorify vampires or the occult. It is about if the movie is calling good good and calling evil evil. Is it being objective or the world view is warped to idolize evil or make it "likeable" is my question.

Uh oh, don't say that too loud. Twilight fans might not like it if you start talking about movies that glorify vampires or the occult, or make evil likeable... >.>

Such juking...wow

Anyways back to the OP, horror movies are generally fine as long as you can separate fact from fiction.
Now, if you want to see horror... not the theme or content...watch the SyFy channel! The acting and ideas are horror enough.

What's scarier is that they they just keep right on making them.

I used to love watching horror movies but on becoming a Christian I mentioned it to my pastor, he warned me against it stating that it could open doors to places I wouldn't want to go. I stopped watching them and TBH I don't miss them.

I remember a cartoon I saw once. A group of kids were sitting around the campfire telling the scariest stories they knew. One said, "That's not scary. What would really be scary is if they let (a certain actor) make another show." Everyone screamed.

Later in the tent one of the kids asked another in a shaky voice, "Is it true? Do you think they'll really let him do another show?" The other kid said, "Nah, that could never happen. The FCC has tons of regulations to prevent it."

No. The bible says whatever is true, nobel, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy- think about such things. Whatever you put into your brain will come out, and what good and Godly thing can you get from horror movies?
