Growing up thats just about what it was like at family events. There was usually 40 or 50 people minimum so there was tons of food and we always met at my Grandmother's house.

Reminds me of what Carl Hurley, a country comedian, once said.

"When I go to visit Momma, I always give her plenty of advance notice. I'll call her up and say, "Hey Momma, I'm gonna be by in a couple hours, now don't go to any big trouble for me..." I can hear the pots and pans rattling already. And every recipe starts the same way, take two cups of lard..."
