Men taking wife’s surname - what do you think

In the Canadian province of Quebec, apparently a wife is not permitted to take the husband's surname! To me, that is wrong, because it obscures whether a couple is married or merely shacked.
Sounds like Canada might actually be worse than California when it comes to political correctness.... :eek:

I was honored to take my husband's last name. my name is very plain otherwise and taking his name made it unique.

I think I'd prefer to take a new husband's name if I married again. Not only for the new name change but the tradition. I don't see anything wrong with another couple choosing to do things differently.
