I never even saw a Living Bible until about 15 years ago. My old man had serious issues with the translation, so we were a KJV/NIV household only. ^_^

The Living Bible is not a translation. It is a paraphrase created by a man as a story time book for his young children to grasp the basic concepts of each story.

Ahhhh, that would definitely explain why the old man was so fervently against it. I guess it's more contemporary counterpart, then, would be, The Message?

Yep. Exactly. Horrible to quote from. Though i find with modern translations such as the NLT there seems to be no reason to bother with a paraphrase.

Probably way out there, but I think of that hard green foam stuff that comes at the bottom of flower pots that have fake flowers in them...

I used to love to destroy that stuff when I was a kid.

The New Living Translation is closer to thought-for-thought than word-for-word but it's not a paraphrase. It's in a totally different group to The Message. Also, the NLT wasn't translated by just one person and there's nothing story time quality about the book. The NLT is God's Truth as much as the NIV, NRSV or ESV (among others).

YOU CANNOT SCROLL DOWN AND READ REPLIES BEFORE YOU REPLY TO THIS THREAD.
SO STOP RIGHT THERE MISTER/MISS....

OK..when you hear these words...what is the first thing that comes to your mind? You must reply with the first thing...Yes the answer is CC appropriate so don't reply with something that isn't cc appropriate.

The words are..

Pale green somewhat spongy cover.

What am I talkin about?

What thing immediately comes to mind?

This may give away your age.
The first thing that came to mind was "don't tell me what to do...", and then I realized you meant about the title, not the opening phrase :).

The cover is either more forest or pine green. :p
