Buttered toast mostly lands butter side down when dropped, generally speaking that is.

I thought that was important information to pass along. :)

I think it has something to do with the aerodynamics of the filled pores of the bread with a substance that has less wind resistance. I think you can notice this in the wind tunnel experiments. hahaha just teasing.

There needs to be more scientific study on this. Inquiring minds deserve to know.

Personally I think it lands butter side down because that's the side that gets ruined.

I believe The Myth Busters did a study/experiment on this. Results were inconclusive.

This excerpt is probably the best evidence for the phenomenon..

Toast that falls off a table doesn't have enough time to spin more than 180 degrees, so it lands butter side down more frequently (67 percent of the time with real butter and 57 percent of the time with the letter B put on the toast with marker).

It takes an 8 foot drop to get to roughly 50-50 results for which side it lands.

And yeah... a 10,000 data point study on whether or not toast falls butter side down.

If you make a generalization about an entire group of people, you are saying those things about every single member of that group. If you say that men are creeps, you are calling your dad a creep. As well as your uncles and brothers, if you have any. And the guy whom you respect the most, the guy who's stood up for you more than any other person ever has, the guy who always had your back and didn't think twice about it... apparently he's a creep now.

If you say that women are unfaithful, you are saying it about your mother and your grandmother. You are saying it about the most faithful, ladylike person you've ever met. You are saying it about every single lady on this forum. Please, think about them before you lump people into categories in which they do not all belong.

Besides, what good does it do? Sure, sometimes things need to be pointed out. But when was the last time a guy saw an "All guys are crude!" rant and decided... "You know what, I should stop being so crude." Has a greedy girl ever seen a tirade about how all girls are greedy and realized that it's time to stop being greedy? So if it isn't doing any good, why say it? There's a point where you're just cursing the darkness. And it makes the people who aren't crude or greedy feel bad that they can't do anything about the ones who are.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to make this thread. :D
Generalizations can sometimes hold people back from learning something new with fresh eyes, because they have already decided something about a certain group. It can stunt wisdom and growth, and make you stubborn instead. After all, if you believe you already know everything about everything, what else is there to learn?

Also to state the obvious, generalizations can hurt. It's makes the people doing the generalizing feel powerful and smart and experienced.... until the tables turn, and someone does it to them.

I occasionally fall into the habit of clumping groups of people together myself (since I'm not perfect lol). But I make a conscious effort not to say them out loud if I think it could discourage somebody else. I try to keep an open mind. :)

Sure He did. :) ''For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God'' is a great example.

I think buttered toast lands butter-side down because the floor expects the mother to mop thoroughly.

MrHonest!!!!!

Nw2u!!!!!

How have you guys been? I haven't seen you around in ages! :)

Oh, and I usually think to mention when my threads aren't about a particular person. I thought later that some people might think I was talking about Hal51's thread about jealousy, but I wasn't. (I didn't even read that thread.) It was just a subject that had been on my mind lately because sometimes it seems like people don't think about how unfair and, frankly, rude it is to say that all women manipulative or all men are creeps or whatever. And that be all I gots to say. :p

I thought it was a good thread popclick. I enjoyed it. I had to chuckle a little when I saw the huge image of the upside down cow on that slice of toast on the other page and then had to just add a little fuel to that fire, so to speak. :D

Doing alright. I've been on. I just don't post much. Thanks for remembering me. :) I hope you are well.

Sometimes its very easy to become frustrated with people in general and to become cynical. You don't know who to blame for whatever is wrong so you blame everyone for everything. And you also blame yourself. We are all imperfect. Its just that simple.

You make a good generalized point of this generally confusing point but if I could be general with you, don't you think that generally speaking of course, doesn't your point generalize on quite a few generally misunderstood point, and come across as generally general.

Signed General Awesome.
