One of the things I really feel strongly about is praying for people any time they ask, but here recently I started wondering about something.

I keep a prayer list and as I was going through it, I noticed a similarity in most prayer requests. Most prayer requests I have written down, whether it be people at church, family or friends, the vast majority of prayers are for things like healing, guidance, or job concerns. Nothing wrong with asking for prayer about any of those, but I noticed that there were rarely prayer requests for issues regarding problems with sin. It seems rare that I hear anyone asking for prayer about an issue they have with lust, infidelity, addiction, or idolatry. I am surrounded by great people, but I would venture we are all struggling with some sin issue.

So why do we rarely ask others to pray for us in regards to struggles with sin? Is it a pride issue, not wanting to publicly acknowledge our struggles with sin? Are we embarrassed? Is it that we are afraid that information will be spread further than we want? Are we afraid that people will think less of us if we publicly acknowledge our sins and need for prayer?

I see people come to this site frequently asking for advice/prayer over sin issues. Probably when it's people you know well they aren't so keen in discussing their sins or owning up to them in a public setting. They'd likely prefer to go to a web site and be anonymous and post the requests there.

I ask for prayer for sin struggles with a) my accountability partner and then, b) the small group of the women that I meet with regularly.

I do not ask for prayer specifically in the body at large because of gossip, frankly! It's an honest place to say that at least in my church at this time, I do not feel safe being so vulnerable to the corporate body.

IMHO, some prayer requests just require a deeper level of intimacy to be shared.

Probably because they would feel exposed and wouldn't know how people would react when sharing these type of things. Shoot, I would feel the same sometimes when sharing online, let alone open up about anything in real life.
