No I dont think thats what either of us meant. Many people are more attracted to their own race but I think that when you decide that a group of people are not attractive, thats when it is hatred or bigotry.

We kinda talked about this in another thread recently and I stated that I am a lighter skin black woman and am mostly attracted to fairer skin black men or tanned hispanic men. That doesnt make me a Black Hitler. But If I were to say that white people are "ugly" then that would be racist.
Saying white people are ugly wouldn't make you racist. Racism is believing that one race is better than another. Just because someone personally thinks one race is unattractive doesn't make them racist (but possibly prejudice).

In any case, all I'm saying is, saying one race is ugly CERTAINLY wouldn't make you equivalent to Hitler on any sort of out-of-whack scale. Pulling the Hitler card is utterly ridiculous.

I don't think the article is completely wrong. It's long been an established fact that people will migrate to others of similar ethnicity; so it's only logical that a survey of the general male populace (the majority of which are white) would get results saying black women are the least attractive, since they are the farthest removed physically from the ethnicity of the majority of men who were surveyed. In high school I saw roughly the same thing black men would date black women, white men would date white women, Latino men would date Latino women, and Asian men generally stuck with Asian women. There was some crossover especially with Asian women and white men and Latino women and white men, but all in all that's how it panned out.

I'll be honest I don't find black women very attractive, and the ones that I do find attractive usually have predominately Caucasian facial features. Why? I don't know that's just how my brain works. To sum it all up I don't think there is actual racism in judging attractiveness since what we find attractive is completely subjective.

Yeah, what a very ignorant statement to say that a racial group is less attractive...just because that's all somebody may see around them doesn't mean everybody is that way. People shouldn't make judgements about a particular group based on where they live or as a whole. Rediculous! And yeah I don't think anybody said anything about Hitler... whew! People make judgements like this yahoo deal based on how they were rasied and where they were raised.

I don't give two hoots about race. What I do care about is the young woman's faith primarily. I am culturally biased though; there's just certain cultures I wouldn't go near with a 10 ft. pole.

I just think I have to write something. Psychology Today is not just a reading stuff, it's BUSINESS. Now they're making a lot of money from all the attention they get. Clever. :)

It wouldnt make you equivalent to Hitler but she originally said was it was a consequence of a Hitler mindset, meaning a superiority complex.

I also want to point out the white and black doll experiment that was done during Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954. The dolls in Brown vs. Board of Education

To sum it up most students chose the white doll to be better than the black doll. It is a result of systematic degradation. I think the same still applies today. If you are only bombarded with certain impages of things beauty then the mind interprets it as the only forms of beauty. Anything else won't be accepted.

It also can turn into a form of self hatred. A number of Indians (from India) regularly use products to lighten their skin, black women put goop on their hair to make it straight. This is all because society says what you naturally look like is not acceptable.

I am really dark black......I guess I am proud of it. Since nobody thinks it's attractive (at least most people dont), I think God must find it very attractive because He doesn't think like the way men do... what a peaceful thought!! :)... even here in Africa I used to have nightmares when I was a little girl with people screaming to my face " Huyu cheusi sana!" meaning I am too black ..lol.. what more would I need than to know I have found favor before God.

I wouldn't call personal preference racism, the idea of all people being equal, would do away with appearance as a factor, but stereotypes are not just to judge others, but also to discern which groups you would feel comfortable with. I'm sure there's a saying, that, if you see/hear/listen to something long enough, its likely to become attractive (or less unnattractive).

...and just to qualm Psalm2713's stereotype of men, I happen to find black attractive, there is no such thing as too black.

I agree that a survey of males with a majority of one race will yield results that favor that race over others. Well, therein lies the problem. To take that skewed data and say that black women are the least attractive of all women is just wrong. To those men, okay, yes. In order to come to a true conclusion, one must have a much wider scope in the survey. What that man did is completely racist.

A question that keeps popping up in my mind is this:

If darker skin is supposed to be so unattractive, why is the tanning industry so lucrative? Doesn't make much sense, does it?

Halle Berry, Lena Horne, Beyonce, Jurnee Smolett, Alicia Keys.....these are totally beautiful women. :)

And..umm...what about the subject of the Song of Solomon? ;)

Wow. What a horrid article. I have one black friend who is more beautiful than almost any other woman of any color I've met. Her name is Lisa, she never wears makeup, and she still has a smile to die for. It reminds me of that poem by Poe...

Helen, thy beauty is to me/Like those Nicean barks of yore/That gently over a perfumed sea/The weary, way-worn traveller bore/to his own native shore.

On desperate seas long wont to roam/Thy Hyacinth hair, thy classic face,/Thy Naiad airs hath brought me home/To the beauty that is Greece/and the grandeur that is Rome./

And to top it all off, she looks 15 years younger than she is. If I didn't love this sister in Christ so much, I think I might hate her just for that. :p (Kidding... Mostly. :))

This is a good point you make and it also makes a comment about society as well. Most people would agree that all of these women are considered to be very attractive but one crucial point here is that all of these women are fairer skin black women. Berry, Keys and Smolett are all bi racial and Beyonce's family is Creole.

How many darker skinned, natural hair, black women can we identify as having beauty accepted by our society?

These ladies are beautiful, but you do make a good point, Amber, it does seem that many of the thirty named here are fairer skinned than the other ladies:

Maybe there's a reason that the most beautifully romantic writings in the scriptures are about a woman of color, huh? :) God certainly knows beauty when He sees it.
