Mark 9 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

The disciples and Jesus had just been up a high mountain together. Jesus was transformed, they saw Elijah and Moses with him. They didn't know what to make of it. Then the experience was over. Jesus then tells them not to speak of this experience until he has risen from the dead.

As they're coming down the mountain, from this amazing, confusing experience, perplexed by what Jesus just said, we find them, "discussing what rising from the dead meant".

I felt like I could relate to them. How much of what we see in the Bible isn't necessarily so clear to us? How much leaves us wanting to discuss what it means?

How awesome Jesus didn't turn around and say...Shhhhh......

How amazing we can discuss things....

Isn't it great when we can discuss these things with the spirit of awe and love that Peter, James and John must have felt, rather than the clanging cymbal, joystealing atmosphere we run into sometimes? Some things we can't know yet. That's a given. But it's still cool to have those times of What if this? What if that? without being raked over the coals. :) (It's better still when someone in your office brings you a sliver of chocolate cake while you take a few minutes to ponder these things ;))

I've watched my son learn and grow from a toddler to a young man by doing the same thing re: everything from tying his shoes to trying to figure out girls. It makes me smile. I can't help but think that the Father has the same reaction when we ponder in wonder the things of the Kingdom.

P.S. - Liamson, I hope you wore some of Nod's Robocop gear when you went in there. :)

The last time I tried to constructively discuss anything in the Bible Study forum I ended up hearing all sorts of untruths about my mother's choice of footwear.

It's why I stick to the Singles forum. All I get in here is the occasional message strongly asking if I could, for once, be serious.

They were only perplexed because they knew it was impossible for someone to rise from the dead.

If I said to my friends "I am going to turn into an eagle tomorrow" and they knew I wasn't kidding they would chat about it amongst themselves too.

Edwards: Why the big secret? People are smart. They can handle it.
Kay: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

(Men In Black)

Sometimes it takes just a minute to wrap our finite little minds around the fact that just about everything we know is wrong.

Sorry, no...but it's interesting that in a very short time, the disciples went through the progression of:

1. Rise from the dead? Yeah right. I mean, c'mon...

2. Jesus? You can't die! I gave up my office in the IRS and I just made the second payment on a new Chevrolet. We were supposed be on Leno!

3. Whoah. Jesus is in real trouble. ~whistles and walks the other direction~

4. Jesus who? No, you have the wrong number. ~click~

5. How long can we hide out in this upper room? I mean, not to point fingers, but y'all need a bath. Especially you, Peter. You need to try walkin' on the water again, and take some soap with ya.

6. Jesus? No way! Way? Is that...? Are you....? Aaaah. Got it.

7. Yeah, Jesus is the real deal. Behead me or stake me to the cross, it don't matter. I'd be honored to die for Him.

Quite the about face, if you ask me.
