If you aren't interested in dating someone at all, what's the best way to tell them?

How would you want someone to tell you this?

Haven't really had this problem since high school. And even then it was mostly her asking her friend to ask me.. blah blah blah. Only once did i have to actually deal face to face. I basically told her that as a Christian i couldn't really date her since she wasn't a Christian... she tried telling me she was, actually a mormon i believe. But not a practicing one, thats for sure haha. So then i had to point to her smoking, drinking and drug use. Fortunately that worked.
Now its mostly me picking up on someone having an attraction to me. Once i get that sense i try to do things to discourage it. Keep a distance from them, maybe try to highlight some of my more negative aspects, haha. There's ways to stop them haha.

The best way I've been told is.. "I don't really want to date anyone right now."

Of course "right now" means right when I asked her out.

I would say something like this....

"I'm flattered that you ask, but I'm really not interested, but thank you for asking and I would love to be friends"

No matter how nice a person tries to say no, it is always gonna sting a little bit.

Drop hints using keywords like "friend."

"You're such a great friend."

"How are you, friend?"

Just keep saying it in hopes something sinks in subconsciously. It actually works on occasion.

Ladies, how would you want a guy you were interested in to tell you he wasn't interested?

It's pretty easy for guys I guess. All they have to do is just not call you. They don't have to think up something nice to say, do they? :)

When a guy that doesnt know me invites me to go for a coffee i first tell him "sure, one of these days...." in order to delay the "date" and can know him better, so i start to talk with him "meanwhile" and then is when i explain him that i dont date, that im not looking for a boyfriend because im waiting until marriage. If he agrees with that, then i go out with him but as friends after some weeks or moths of knowing him, and some other guys stop talking to me so i move on.

I don't think it's enough by saying we're friends cause I said that to guyfriends on my church and they still had a crush on me and they still had hopes up for me. It also doesn't work to say "You are like a brother to me" cause they still have the hopes up. So I think one should be honest and say "Hey, you're a good guy, but just not for me. You'll find the woman you're looking for." And that's it.

best thing is to avoid even being friends with someone who likes you, if you dont like them back. reason being is that the person will always remain hopeful and you can never really be friends, anything nice they do for you will be their way of trying to get some relationship happening, and the more you let a person do things for you, they can end up hating you and see you as a user.

I've never had that problem. I've been on both sides of the coin, and remained friends. Never had any issues from it.

I have that exact problem!! This guy is trying to make it obvious to me but I'm kind of acting like I don't really notice? I mean he's an amazing person and a good friend and he hasn't actually brought it up but knowing how he feels makes hanging out kind of difficult...
