Having self-esteem issues?
Boy do I have a remedy for you.
It's straight from Jesus.
Check it out.

Matthew 6:9
hallowed be your name,

The disciples asked Jesus how to pray.
Part of His answer included us requesting that the Father's name be hallowed.

How does this relate to self-esteem?

Jesus says we're to desire the esteeming of the Father's name.
Replace your desire to have your name esteemed, with a desire to have the Father's name esteemed.

Which is more important?
Esteeming yourself?
Esteeming the Father?

Which is more Biblical?
Esteeming yourself?
Esteeming the Father?

Culture says we have to worry about esteeming ourself.
Jesus says we need to worry about esteeming the Father.

So there is your cure for self-esteem.
It isn't anything we were to pursue in the first place.
We're to pursue the esteeming of the Father's name.

Actully, it comes from knowing who you are in Christ. Knowing that we've been made as rightous as Jesus, basically it just sounds like the more we learn about Jesus the more we'll learn about ourselves as Christians.

Romans 3:21-26

21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through the shedding of his blood —to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished — 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Where in the Bible does it even say esteeming ourselves is something we should pursue. Jesus is clear. We're to seek the esteeming of the Father.

I'm saying that feeling bad or good about ourselves isn't something we should worry about. We have a greater concern.

Hmm.. I disagree. And I would be reluctant in calling it a cure, self-esteem issues are way too complex to blanket over.Take "You shall love your neighbor as you love yourself" for instance. What if you do not love yourself? How can you give something away that you don't have?

It's implied that people will care for their needs.

Our self centered culture has turned that in to Jesus saying "LOVE YOURSELF TOO!"

All I'm saying is that 'self esteem' as our culture puts it, isn't something we're mandated to worry about either way. It should be replaced with a more proper concern and desire. Esteeming the Father.

Perhaps, I would have a better understanding, if you could define what you mean by self-esteem

My take away from this is that when many people speak of self-esteem, they are speaking on the basis of their own accomplishments, especially since I googled the definition of self-esteem and it said "a feeling of pride in yourself". The verses below indicate that any value we may feel about ourselves is not to be based upon our own accomplishments, but rather who we are in Christ and His work for and in us.

We ALL matter enough to the God of all creation that He was willing to suffer and die for us. THAT's value, huh?

Galatians 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Jeremiah 9:24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD.

I dont know, I view self esteem as having confidence in yourself and not being ashamed of who you are. Nothing about that seems to conflict with esteeming God in anyway.

I guess it matters where your confidence comes from. I often catch myself being proud of a certain accomplishment and whenever I boast about it, something happens that shows me, Meems, you are not that great on your own.

So, I like to include God in everything I do. When I accomplish something that I am happy about, I immediatley think of where it comes from. I like to think that God helps me and inspires me to achieve things in life and I feel good about myself and about the fact, that God blesses my hours long studying or trying.

When I look back on every little achievment in my life, I can clearly state that God's hand was involved there. So my self-esteem is high, cause God thinks highly of me and because I am valuable and precious in His eyes.

When it comes to dating, I guess you are only ready to date, when you have a high self-esteem, because only when you know your worth you can expect to be treated right by men/women.

So to sum it up, God should be the source of our self-esteem and when He is, we automatically esteem Him with our actions.
