This is where you lose me because it seems like you base your feeling on an assumption of what someone's reason is, and you think everyone's is the same which is likely not true.

Using make-up on a daily basis does not mean a person is unhappy with their face and is trying to hide, I have always understood make-up used in moderation is more like an accent, a way to enhance natural features not to cover them up.

Equating the regular use of make-up to cosmetic surgery is not a valid comparison, make-up as used by most people I see is a minor addition to enhance, surgery is more often used to make substantial changes that can alter a persons appearance in a much different and more significant way.

Just because someone uses cosmetics does not mean that they are unhappy with themseleves in some way.

Whether someone is 'enhancing their natural features' or not, they are still taking steps that they think will improve the way they look. Cosmetic surgery can also involve just minor 'enhancements'. Conversely, makeup can produce major changes. Irrespective of how significant the changes to their appearance someone is seeking, they are still trying to make themselves look better. In this regard, I can't see how the motivation behind wearing makeup and having cosmetic surgery is any different. People cringe at this thought because makeup is socially acceptable whereas cosmetic surgery, at present, is generally not.

This is too drastic of a comparison for everday women. A woman who merely puts on a bit of blush and mascarra cannot be compared to a woman who goes for botox and other cosmetic surgeries. The leap is WAY too great for that. Just because she feels like putting on a bit of blush to give her face some color and darkening her lashes does not mean that she is unsatisfied with the way she looks, she is just enhancing what she already has. Cosmetic surgery and makeup cannot be thrown into the same category where everday women are concerned. I wear makeup, but you would never catch me lining up for surgery. I am very happy with who I am and the way God put me together, but I do know that I look a little more put together ( and professional for work) with some mascarra and blush (because I can be rather pale) Just because I wear those products, it doesnt scream out that I hate who I am or how I look -- I'm just wearing it as a choice. But its entirely different from surgery. Now if someone truly is unsatisfied with themselves and feel they need a dozen and one surgeries to fix themselves, then that is their choice. Do I agree? Well, it's not really my place to disagree or agree. All I can do is state my personal oppinion for what I personally feel is right for me. And I don't find it a problem to wear a little lipgloss here and there. It helps make you look pretty for special occasions. It's not that big of a deal. And I agree, Sharp, that women who wear caked on eyeliner and all that really don't look attractive. Like Kiwi_OT said, "less is more". Just because you've met a few women that over do it, doesn't mean that all of us do. And saying that all women that wear makeup are no different then the women wanting surgery is a BIG HUGE leap.

Wow this is a very good debate! I have some thoughts on this!!

I think as well that make-up is okay if used moderately! Yes GOD created you to be beautiful just the way you are....but makeup is not sinful, and taking care of yourself definitely isn't either...
Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and it is a gift you received from God, so you should definitely take care of it.

The important thing is not to have your appearance be a source of pride to you instead of the cross of our Lord, neither to let it be your focus and attention instead of God.

Just as with banning football or video games or certain TV....some people consider those sinful and some don't..the difference is those who are addicted to those things and they worship them---rather then people who serve GOD with their heart.

GOD cares about your heart...not these worldly things.

1 John 2:15-17

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Now passing judgment of course is a sin

Matthew 7
1. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

As Always BE BLESSED!

I use makeup, and when i say i use it- I mean I use it A LOT. I'm the girl who wears too much of it and you know what? I LOVE IT. I find it obsene for people to tell me if i can use it or not. Why dont you just tell me how to dress? Or what I can eat? If you find it disgusting then guess what- you have the choice to not wear it or not look at me. It's part of my personal style. God told us to look into the heart anyway, and if some guy doesn't like me for what I look like then he's just shallow and frankly that's someone I dont waste my time with.

Hey! Please excuse this old gal for commenting on makeup. I am 57 years old this next month and there is nothing wrong with painting an old barn, it makes it look better!!

I think that a better question is, why are women wearing makeup. Makeup has been around for thousands of years. Egyptians using copper and others using burnt match sticks to darken the eyes. Leaches have even been used to give a pale complexion because it was considered attractive for that time.

I believe that makeup is no different than when a man believes he is more handsome or authoritative in a solid blue tie, as opposed to a striped one. The choices we make to beautify our shell is an expression of who we are, or who we believe we are.

If music video celebrities and runway models are the guage by which women are measuring their attractiveness, it's neither right nor wrong, but rather, it reveals a need. Makeup, as well attire, are ways of sending a message to onlookers.

To ban makeup, especially among christian circles, would be a step backward in liberty, and a step forward into legalism, and advocating prohibitive thinking. The question that each woman should ask and answer, (for herself) is, what is the message that I'm trying to send? Am I enhancing the natural beauty God has given me, or am I compensating for an inner struggle with my personal sense of worth, which drives me to keep up with the latest trends and body improving secrets?

I'm still failing to understand how there can be a distinction made between a person's motivations, based on how significant or how permanent the changes that they are making to their face are.

Let me ask you this, if you had rosy red cheeks, bright shining lips and skin like Beyonce, would you still wear makeup? If your natural appearance already achieved the look you go after when you put on makeup, would you still wear more makeup on top of it? I'm thinking your probably wouldn't, because you'd be happy with the way you looked. Doesn't that then mean that you think that currently there is something missing?

By the way, you could also say that people who get cosmetic surgery are also 'enhancing what they already have'. They already have a face, and they are enhancing it. I honestly can't see a meaningful distinction between permanent and temporary changes, particuarly if the temporary changes are applied regularly. To me, enhancing what someone already has would be maybe getting a haircut, because they already have hair. Someone doesn't already have makeup. Its something additional which is brought in and added.

Anyway, this discussion has become alot more serious than I was expecting it to hahaha. I didn't realise people felt so strongly about this. In conclusion, I'd just like to say,

The correct answer is YES.

Why?

Becuase it makes me want to vomit, that's why!

Whoever you are, woman or man, YOU DON'T NEED IT!

If you don't like the way you look, the worst thing you can do to yourself is put paint all over your face.

It's just so gross!!!!!!!

I hate the way lip gloss shines when the light hits it. I hate the way eye shadow leaks when it gets wet. I hate the way foundation comes off and you can see two different face colours. And I HATE fake nails! And I HATE the way all of this stuff smells! Its nauseating!!! HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE!

If you wear makeup, please tell me why you think you need it, and I'll tell you why you don't.

Sharp.

The irony is that 99% of times when you look at a girl and she is wearing make up you think she is beautiful. The art of *faux natural* makeup. Above you are regarding the 1% of women who wear so much that they look ridiculous. But I don't hate it because it makes many women happy.

I like makeup for the chance to play with colors and paints. Besides, most of the time I go without it. As for high heels, I like how they look, but will walk around barefoot at the first sign of pain.
I'll admit to being vain and not wanting deformed toes.
On the up side, the corset trend is now out of fashion. Our organs are again in their rightfully God-graced positions.

I did see someone had said something on tattoos needing to be banned, also another saying permanent make-up as to temporary. That one I'm against adamantly. I would rather tattoo my entire face with some outlandish permanent image (floral maybe?) than suffer the annoyance of redoing my pixelated eyebrows every few years. :p

Even though I am not against makeup as long as it is not rediculous, the book of Enoch says that makeup was created by the fallen angels. They also taught women about abortion etc.
