So I was watching "Say Yes to the Dress" last night and one of the girls wanted a dress that was $5,400. The only problem was that her parents could only afford $4,000. The bride had to beg her dad to come up with the rest of the money to buy the gown. Her parents looked worried about the cost but eventually agreed that their daughter needed this gown. A gown she will wear one day...out of her entire life...
The bride was in her late 20s/early 30s I'm sure. It made me wonder. Why couldn't she buy the gown herself? Why couldn't she at least pay the extra $1,400? It kinda shocked me. LOL

Wow that is beyond first world problems.. that's like fantasy world problems. It reminded me of this reality show where the teenage star went out and bought three dresses for this fundraising banquet she was hosting. She wanted to change twice during the dinner banquet. The dresses came to over $20k and I was thinking...shouldn't he have donated that instead???

Yeah, because they raised someone that is reliant on them, and as she got older, and accustomed to their paying for her, she got more expensive and dependent on them. This behavior didn't happen over night, it took her all her life to get that way.
Notice they said yes, instead of taking a stand. Guarantee that wasn't the first time. Begging is a trained behavior. She does it because it works. Kids that grow up learning that the word 'no' has meaning behind it, and can't be easily changed, don't beg their parents for overpriced dresses. Kids that learn that grow up to become adults that are more likely to figure out how to get it themselves, rather than ask their parents at all. Also they are less likely to have such overpriced requirements to begin with because they understand the difficulty in paying for such a lifestyle.
