Haha, I've been humbled quite a few times throughout my learning to be a musician. I had to fail a lot before I could succeed.

I started playing piano when I was 5. I quit at 10 or 11, I wanna say. I know it was after I got my guitar, which was when I was 10... so yeah. Probably 11.

I still am not very successful at it. I've forgotten a lot, actually. Correct hand positions and all. Well, I remember where middle C is, how to read notes, how to use a pedal, and all the keys on it. I probably have the ability to learn again, but I need someone to teach me almost everything again. Unfortunately, I can't afford lessons.
No. I mean, i'm horrible. I can't sing. I played drums for 3 years and during that time i hit a point where i stopped improving. Despite working my butt off practicing. I tried guitar and all i ever thought was *blink blink.. huh?. And from 6-8th grade i was in school band playing trumpet. I was consistently in last or second to last chair. I couldn't fully comprehend reading notes. My brain rejects all such concepts. Which is ironic since as a teen i wanted to do music, start a record label and learn to produce. *cry.. By my late teens i gave up. Some people just do not have skills in some areas.

Honestly, when I saw the question he asked, I was like, "Whoa!! Whoa!! What in the name of good music is this sorcery?? o_O"

Can't wait to get to college to learn more about music theory.
I so agree... There is so much to learn.

Any and all musicians...

What are your thoughts on learning scale and progression by learning tunes?
My example would be I learned to play lead guitar by learning a few fiddle tunes at first, then learning to improvise and thus learning scale. Though I can't read music and don't know the names of the scale. Yet I began this journey in music about seven years ago and now can learn to play most any song my ear. Not always without flaw but always recognizable and with practice quite well.

Not suggesting this is the best way... More wondering if I'm lost and hopeless now. I never have had a chance to have lessons or learn to read music. I tried learning scale and it confused me, same with music. Now I can look at a scale diagram and play it but didn't learn that way...

My hope is to major in music in college. Is this kinda a silly dream since I've never learned music theory at all?
I play mandolin, ukelele, piano and guitar. All four well enough that the worship band leader at the church I try to attend always ask me to sit in. I can play along with anyone even if I don't know the song... My point is am I too far behind to catch up?

Will post a video of my playing and singing soon... Maybe that's needed to answer my questions

No, no, no... I changed majors over a decade ago so I wouldn't have to think about music theory! Start a new thread. Or better yet, make a club! Shour will answer any and all questions you noobs have.

Thank you, and have a nice day. :D

Right now I am trying to figure out how to calculate a winning move in tic- tac- toe, but have no idea how to get the game to "count" tree similar pieces in a row :p

That's a picture of Christopher Walkin isn't it? And Bruce Dickinson is a famed singer for Iron Maiden... or am i missing the joke again?
Yeah it's from SNL. I would post a video but SNL is strict and refuses to have anything of theirs posted on YouTube. But hey, if you stopped living in the past and contemporize man, you'd get it :p

Actually hipsters sort of live in the past, they collect old cameras, typewriters, etc. Wear clothes from the 1890's and use computers from the future. I tell ya' by denying you become one, it is only when you accept your true hipsterness that you no longer become a hipster. Hipsters can not self-label, it goes against their nature.

When I was a kid I wasn't allowed to believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy etc. Did any of you grow up like that too?

I dunno...I never did that "growing up" business...are you suggesting that Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy aren't REAL?

...be verrrry careful how you answer that question, or you'll be crushing the dreams and hopes of an over-grown child....
