Hi all.

I grew up in a christian family and in my church at home I feel truly welcomed and a part of things. However since I have come to university away from home I find that my shyness means that I can't seem to fit into the church I attend.

I feel quite lonely, my housemates are good friends but they are not really christian and I just feel I'm missing something.

It was only today I thought about joining a forum like this, so I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to put myself out there a bit?

Shyness must be overcome...the soul needs to be 'exposed' in whatever church in order to develop, otherwise in familiar setting it tend to commatoze...what I am trying to say that 'shyness' should never be used as an excuse for why you don't fit in...

Follow the Lord and do whatever he shows you, though you may nevr fit in "you will always stick out" or "put yourself out there."

ANd once more, never regret following the Lord in whatever he shows you...though it may bring trouble, strife, and complications world without end, it is far better to die fighting than waste away 'waning' without God.

God bless

I agree, trust that God will open doors for you, but you need to be willing to walk through them! Maybe check at the school to see if there`s a Christian youth thing that gets together there and ask them where a church is near by, usually universities have churches that all the students go to! That, or ask God to bring a new friend to you with the same faith and who knows a near by church! :) Its ok to be shy, but it`s like doing anything the first time - afterward you realize how simple and easy it was! Just ask around when the opportunity comes! Hope everything turns out for ya!!

Get involved with some activity-based clubs on campus. I highly recommend avoiding fraternities/sororities though, even Christian ones. I've found that even the Christian sororities and frats aren't much better than the secular ones.

Well you resurrected a three year old thread....but I will disagree with the general view of fraternities. Sure they throw parties but so does everyone else in college. They do however do a buttload of philanthropy for many groups.
