I was not going to post this here, but God is not going to let me let it go.
I've worked a lot of suicides. People very close to me have taken their own lives...violently. I considered it myself once as a teen. I've seen suicides by cop. You name it, I've seen it. Oftentimes it is the person you least expect to do it who is actually successful in taking their own life. It's not a game. It's nothing to be taken lightly.
Sometimes people make threats to get attention, but SOMETIMES those situations for attention ESCALATE and they actually DO end up taking their own lives (usually because they cried wolf once too often and no one shows up in time), whether they actually meant to or not. Either way, the result is the same.
Sometimes people seriously do not see any other way out, but would certainly welcome one. They feel desperate and alone. They feel hopeless. I can't imagine that anyone reading this has not felt lost and alone at one time or another.
Some people know exactly that they want to do. They want to end it all...the pain...the suffering...the hopelessness..., not realizing that it is just the BEGINNING of suffering, not only for themselves, but for those who care about them as well.
God's people are called to be people of love and compassion. So, whether someone is playing around, doing something for attention or is so lost in depression that they are considering suicide, we have to take them ALL seriously.
Pray. Pray. Did I say PRAY??? PRAY!
Care. Listen. Encourage. Be there.
If someone is playing with you like this, it's on them. If not....do you really want to live with that?
