Hi sc,
That is quite normal as some others here say, although we hope not happen so often. Others claim drinking chamomile and other teas help, but we do not often have chamomile, so i try other things. sometimes i just get up when the thoughts overwhelm me and just find something to do for a while before going back to bed. I thought i wouldnt say this here, but one night in fact, 'opposite' songs got tangled in my head before bed so i tried to write down some title pairs to keep them away from my head-- before i got to sleep=).

Before boy: Asleep three minutes after my head hits the pillow.

After boy: What is happening to me?!

It's a common issue but even more so for people who have a ton of responsibilities I used to love to listen to Christian music when i went to bed soon enough my body would relax and I would feel more at ease inside and my mind began to focus more on God and less of my worries and random thoughts
I used to do this a lot a few years ago. I need to start doing it again. Although a few years ago I didn't have as much stress as I do now, but I manage it as best I can. Thanks for the advice Blain.

Hi Mar09,

I love chamomile tea. I don't drink tea all the time but my friend suggested I cut out coffee completely, so chamomile sounds like a good alternative. I'm curious as to what exactly is an opposite song? Sometimes I get songs stuck in my head and that can get annoying but I never heard of an opposite song. :)

Hi Sillychick! :)

Kudos to you for being such a hard-working, dedicated mom!

I have racing thoughts all the time, and often have problems sleeping as well, so I can very much relate. I'm not sure if this will help? But I came to realize that one of the reasons my thoughts race is because I'm always afraid I'll forget something important.

I carry pens and paper with me all the time, so I can always scribble down things I need to remember (or I even send myself texts).

At night, I try to take about 15 minutes to sort my notes into lists: one for work, one for personal appointments, one for random chores, etc., and I keep the lists in a spiral notebook or calendar so everything is one place, and I can glance over everything I need to remember all at once.

This seems to help a lot with my anxiety over forgetting something important... I hope that maybe it could help ease your mind a little, too.

God bless and hope you have a peaceful night's rest.
Thank you for the encouragement! It means a lot to me. The funny thing about me is that I write myself notes all day long. By the time I pick up the kids at the sitters and make it home I have about 5 post-it notes with all kinds of things I need to get done. My problem is I don't sort through them. I'm so worn out. A friend of mine suggested I prioritize what really needs to get done. He knows that I have way too much on my plate some days. He even offered to help me with the list. I think I need to take advantage of his offer. I have a tendency to do too much some days instead of relaxing every once in a while.

Usually by the time I'm in bed my mind keeps racing but my body starts to shut down. I can sleep but I just crash and my mind is still going as I doze off. Thanks for the advice. I'm jotting everything down in a notebook...... just not tonight! Too tired. Lol

I think its mostly just part of your protective motherly nature and wanting to be a good mom. As a responsible mom you worry about those things that you may have overlooked before going to bed. I suggest making a checklist.

For the work related stuff, I've heard that you should picture a big bag or box and picture all of your concerns going into it and then you seal it or tie it shut. Another way is to try self-hypnosis. Count backwards from ten slowly. 10 represents wide awake and 1 represents deep sleep. Tell yourself to relax your face, your arms, your legs, etc... as you do this. That way worked for me for a long time.
Zero, if I picture a big box and picture all my work related concerns going into it, I'll put myself in the box too. The problem is that when I think of a box I think of chocolate since they go hand in hand. Maybe I should try the bag instead? :p

You're right about the protective motherly nature thing. I think I forgot how to relax. Thanks for the advice.

I don't really have thoughts.
Hmm.... interesting. What do you think about your statement? Nevermind, don't answer it. It might cause you to have a thought. ;)

Could not get back to this, sorry. There was a thread started in the Misc. forum about 'opposite' songs like 'Today' and 'Tomorrow' or some such pairs. Some songs got entangled in my head one night, for that pair in fact could have 'Yesterday' and 'Tonight' also. Perhaps the better pair was Today-Yesterday/ Tonight-Tomorrow??

I was wondering if it's just me or if you guys do this too. When I go to bed I have a million thoughts go through my head. I think about what I have to do at work, my kids, laundry, did I shut off the stove, returning friends phone calls, and on and on. I usually crash by the end of the day but my thoughts are non-stop sometimes. Is it a single mom thing, stress or something else?
it's a momly routine; it's not above-normal for me. i usually does that to maybe to lessen my chores and be systematic for less tiring to do more on other stuffs that i like to do so before going to sleep.
