I have noticed some people have a natural animal archetype that seems to suit their persona to a T...

What is yours and why?

My 'secular' archetype is a tiger - I feel like one ... on a number of levels..., what I generally prowl around as...sensed, but not always seen...

My 'spiritual' archetype is a lion - again - similar to the above - noble
...and also an 'eagle' transcendent; that sees above and beyond - transcends...

Tiger or Phoenix depending on the situation. Sometimes Bear or Turtle though. Only like 5 posters will even get this reference.

lol! I have been saying that i am a duck-billed platypus for YEARS! I think God had a sense of humor and made those just to mess with science-y types and "left brain" types.

I am a platypus because I am a unique marvel that is not meant to be understood, just loved and appreciated. :)

Seriously though, going into this further (for me) seems like dabbling in animism. I've been delivered from New Age thinking and the occult, and to even think of "spirit animals" and such would be some place I would never want to go.

...the bible speaks in this kind of language ie: Christ, the Lion that became the Lamb, some tribes of Israel description etc - so you may be projecting somewhat based on what you just said ...

...I find it quite interesting, and have seen elements of similarity in this kind of thing...

But much like buying a car picking a spirit animal, would have much to do with compensating for something. We had an exercise that we did in Child Psychology, where we asked them if they could be any animal, what would they be and why?

Like if my Spirit Animal is a Wolf.

Wolves are dangerous pack animals.

Maybe If I feel weak and isolated, and long to feel powerful, respected, or a part of a group. I would pick a WOLF.

To be an Eagle so they could fly away.

To be a big Turtle, so they couldn't be hurt anymore.

It usually opens the door to getting information without actually asking direct or hurtful questions.

...maybe with child psychology and those with a certain 'deficit mentality', but as with some in Old Israel, China and parts of the word, the persona can be identified in this manner accurately as well, where a person or group has that archetypal element and grows and develops into it more..., and may just love to express it as part of their identity..., even see it as an art-form...

...sometimes it can help to bring identity into greater focus and coherence within a person..., knowing a bit more about themselves...

...a Taoist martial artist raised as a white man in Tibet since the age of 8, I knew quite well - was teaching a 9 animal style of martial arts, and they would choose the style the person would learn based on their inner animal type of persona - I thought that was very interesting...It was actually very effective...

Perhaps the need to identify with something powerful, is merely a manifestation of Ego.

Like they guy who Lives in an Apartment but Drives a Dodge Viper, that he can barely afford.

I once was hired by a very rich man with a friend; to clean out his wifes house who had about 14 afghan dogs living in there with her - all I can say is the odour was overwhelming - at the age of 19, we both had to buy a cigar and keep it in our mouth to cover up the smell of the resultant dogs mess that was in there ...

...it was uncanny --- we both commented on how this woman actually 'looked like' and 'afghan' by her features and persona; gait --- quite bizarre...

...some others, seem to have a 'buderigar' persona --- I have also seen..., hens pecking --- hmmmm --- feline cats; dog persona...., some women are like 'doves' --- beautiful and feminine; others like 'tigers'...hehe... (wont go there) etc...

...interesting to see...

...assuming one has a deficit mentality..., then one would see that kind of thing and identify with it...

... perhaps being what one is, can also be merely a bold expression of identity --- even an understatement :)

...don't know which is worse, a small man with a large car; or a large man in a matchbox size car...

...Id rather see a small man in a large car, at least he is trying to be 'more'....

...but honestly, in the image of God --- I believe there are patterns and archetypes present..., that are good to identify in oneself and grow in...develop and perfect...persona wise...

...its also fun, to see what animal others identify with :)

I'm wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove. I'm exactly what the Bible tells me to be! :p

...me too, I love that verse, although I prefer the translation 'wise as a serpent and innocent as a dove'... (not always all that harmless; but quite innocent :) )

...Christ was the 'Golden Serpent' Moses lifted in the desert. There is a very profound mystery in that, related to the DayStar dawning in ones heart...Christ is the 'Good Serpent' of Light, Wisdom and Healing; lifted up within and without...ie: 'the Son of man must be lifted as Moses lifted the serpent in the desert'...

...however the enemy has always tried to copy God, and became the 'twisted and cunning evil one' in that regard...

... the Taoist martial artist I mentioned from Tibet was a 'dragon/snake' ... which involved 90% foot work and 10% hand work... it was his persona and I guess ego - in a pure and true sense, not coming from a 'deficit' point of view...

...he was relating how in a tournament, a person he was about to fight attacked him just before it began, and ruptured his diaphragm...his 'master' was helping him recover, and then they went back into the ring... his master just nodded, and the Taoist guy just did a spinning kick that broke the guys jaw that attacked him in 4 places...

...I saw this guy many times and had deep conversations with him. He was a humble yet obviously powerful man; and when he spun around and kicked things splintered, broke and cracked - he was a 'dragon/snake' in that regard..., never ever seen anyone in the west that was so capable and flexible to the extreme..., and he was a great guy, and became a good friend of mine...

...one of the last intiations he had to do - on returning to Tibet for it, was go though a maze and survive all the hidden dangers, and then grab a red hot cauldron full of boiling oil with his forearms, and on the sides were the brands of his animals, which would be branded on his forearms for life...I don't think this man had a 'deficit mentality'...he just 'was what he was'...and that is what I am talking about...

...he identified some of my animal types, tiger being one of them :)

...there were also monkey types, cranes etc...mantis...

...interestingly enough, this Taoist man, read the bible from cover to cover, and many other books on other religions, and was quite an insightful and intelligent - and very perceptive man...I quite liked him - he was almost Christ-like in his persona, and we regarded each other as brothers...in a way

...I would say, seemed more 'Christian' than some other alleged Christians who seem to just want to sow discord, distrust and seem quite unfriendly and cold...Interesting how that comes about --- I guess the bible does say, 'he who would be first will be last' etc..., and we would be very surprised who actually does end up in heaven with Christ - on the 'sea of glass'... :)

It's so weird - I don't feel like any kind of animal.

I feel almost exactly like... a human.

How weird is that.

You are walking a VERY fine line, Tiger. It doesn't take much at all to accept a spirit guide. And as I'm sure you know, they manifest as animals most often... at least at the beginning.
