Advantages
more opportunities to work with missions
more mobility

Disadvantages
full responsibility for anything that goes wrong
fully responsible for bills

I'm sure there's more that I can think of for both categories, but not right now.

Disadvantage - left out of friendes with wife and kids social circles (sometimes) or just feel out of place when in those social situations.

Advantage - I don't see many advantages, but until/if/when I get married I'm sure I do things that I won't do when married, like leaving the toilet seat up and going where I want , when I want and doing things how I want to do them. But, Yes, loneliness does indeed, like you say, msamber, seep through those kind of so-called (selfish) advantages.

May God keep you strong, all you single-minded folk, like myself, in your singleness, doing things for Him now that will be much harder to do if/when you are put with someone by God. Yeah, yeah, oie, oie :)

Advantages

mental sanity
caring for myself and not giving away my all to someone who is too needy and is an adult but acts like a baby
no one stealing my money or faith or destiny

Disadvantages

weaker in most things I do, because I am alone
sometimes lonely
unable to bear children alone
and build a home
vulnerable to others judging me by outward appearance, and making rude remarks, and criticizing, which I endure their abuse, and lack of knowing Christ and remember the rules they were taught in kindergarden, but it still hurts, and then you move on,

For all the ladies,

1. He's just not that into you if he's not calling you
2. He's just not that into you if he's not dating you
3. He's just not that into you if he doesn't want to marry you
4. He's just not that into you if he's disappeared on you
5. He's just not that into you if he's a selfish jerk, a bully, or a really big freak
6. He's just not that into you if he's married (and other insane variations of being unavailable)

Authors of this book, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo

Thank you.

I just did some thought reading on the web and wanted to relay some thoughts about singleness and loneliness and what happens when we are NOT content with it.

This can help those that may be wanting to have a pity party in their loneliness, who looked at my thread and said, " What advantages to being single, it just plain sucks ! "

Well, first off, tone your language repository down there, please, if that's your response. The word itself is inflammatory. that is, the word, 'sucks,' well, sucks ;)

In fact, IF you choose to use any words vainly that arouse something in another person or, gasp!, even in yourself, then be ready for a little red devil friend to come right up beside you and get you into bed with him, so to speak, s-s-s-s-s-s-snake. STRIKE ! Satan !!!!!
He will whisper in your ear, trying to AWAKEN love inside you (lust) ,something like, "It's a quarter after one, and, I am all alone, and, I need you now.' (Yeah, sure, that's Lady Antebellum, good song BUT only if the person you KNOW you NEED NOW is God! ) Right? Right. :) When Jars of Clay sings, 'I need you, I need you, I need you,' that person is God. IF you are single, THAT person is God, and, HEY!, even if you're not single, that person should be God a lot of times but I am not married so I won't go there.

Don't let Satan whisper sweet nothings in your ear, in other words. When Satan tries to sway you to thinking about LONELINESS and singing out loud the song from Bridget Jones' Diary that Bridget sings...'Don't wanna be all by myself, don't wanna be all by myself, no more.' SAY to SATAN, I am not all by myself, I am with IAM !!

Say it ! :)

THERE ARE NO DISADVANTAGES WITH BEING SINGLE if YOU STAY YOUR LIFE TO THE TRUE COURSE OF CHRIST FOR YOU. Paul says in Corinthians, that you are NOT a HALF, you are full, whole, COMPLETE in Christ. You are too realize that you do not have wife and kid responsibilities IF single and young and not married, you certainly don't have a baby to care for, and, those sweet nothings can CHANGE your life forever, ladies. Your sweetie, until God says 'IT'S TIME,' in your ear, is God. :)

None.

And, guys? Your main man is God, whom is your FATHER, whom you MUST follow after (The Lord leads) or punishment will come for not treating ladies respectfully. Your whole life with upheavel if YOU hurt girls, do, do, do things according to His will and you will be so mightily blessed, turn back Satan, again and again and again and every 'turn back,' will see a smile on our Lord's face and strengthen your walk with Him and maybe get you closer to a dream you have of marriage. Maybe. Be content ! :)

God bless you all. The steps of the righteous are ordered by God.

Advantages:
Being free to be myself and not have to conform to someone's standards of me.
I can watch reruns on TV without hearing, "this is really lame''.
Being able to make decisions without running it by ''the man of the household''.
Having my home just the way I want it not the way someone else thinks it should be.

Disadvantages:
Being lonely
Not having a companion to go out and have fun with.
Not feeling the joy of what it is to be in love (which I have never experienced, but wish to in the future).
Did I mention being lonely?

Now that I read you response I feel like it was a loaded question. As if you baited people in to giving reasons for both sides just to say that they had no right to feel there are disadvantages. Maybe you dont feel like there are disadvantages in it but that doesnt mean thats its like that for everyone.

I say this because just because we say there are some disadvantages doesnt mean we dread it or we are not at least content. Just because I feel lonely sometimes doesnt mean I am not staying my "LIFE TO THE TRUE COURSE OF CHRIST" I can be doing the things that God tells me to do and still feel these things. And thats because he gave me the desire for a reason. He is going to give it to me at some point.

I dont think its fair to tell people basically just to "suck it up" because you are complete in Christ, beause though I am complete doesnt mean I dont want other things for my life. Just because I have steak for dinner it doesnt mean I shouldnt want or cant have mashed potatoes also. Maybe at some point I dont want to eat steak everyday. Maybe I want Salmon or enchiladas.

msamber, I am not trying to hurt you, sweetie. I will NEVER say something on here to make someone lowly, but does happen?
Sure, its called human nature and I TRULY believe that a life WITH Christ having the wheel is with NO disadvantages. It was not meant to bait. It was not meant to entertain either though, it was meant to bring the reality of HOW Satan acts on us when we are discouraged by God's chosen plans for us. It def puts us at a disadvantage to succeed when we allow Satan an 'in' to our lives and outwardly being lonely is reality. hey, I know, too, believe me, I know too ! And, its not a fun feeling, but I encourage you to be close to the vest if God in your times of loneliness and Really, Really Really goin on to Him and let Him take you through that LONELINESS. I know, if you do that, you will not feel Adobe, in fact far from it, you will feel as alone as one can be :)

God bless you, msamber, and, sorry if I sounded judgmental. The Lord leads (my life) and I make mistakes al the time and will continue to say, do, them ALL my entire life.

The biggest advantage for me in being single is my singular devotion now in my life to... Christ and freedom to go so many places, Di so many simple (but great) things for Him . :)
The biggest disadvantage is that by being lonely, at times it keeps me out of social situations I feel could benefit my (and others) life. But, again, that is me speaking, so, I bite my lip best I can and try my very best to let God SPEAK through me. Because? Because I know whom I have believed and whom I know is real, miraculous, and, I've seen His work constantly fill my life and I am so content with that Loving truth known of my Jesus, my Saviour, whom of which none is like He. , and all of my days I will.praise the wonders of His love for me and I pray all these same blessings for every single one of you on c.c. :)

I am not married either, but i would like to share something with you that should give you great encouragement. In Isaiah 54:5, it says, " For your Creator will be your husband; the Lord of Heaven's Armies is His name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy one of Israel, the God of all the Earth."'Dropping down into verse10, it says," For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be brokes,' says the Lord, who has mercy on you."

Advantage:

Don't have to spend money on Valentines Day
Don't have to get lectured about things like housekeeping and "not helping enough around the house"

Disadvantage:

No one to share your life with
No one to hold when you're feeling lonely or down
No one to love
A solitary existence
